View Full Version : Listing Your Mod's....A Pride Issue??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the world of racing, I was under the impression that you didn't want your competition to know what mods you had on your bike.
What makes me think this is that obviously you can see if someone is running a pipe or swinger, but things such as port & polish, reeds, carbs, and once I saw on a snowmobile where they has some type of aftermarket head that was designed to look exactly like the stock head, so as to give you an advantage over the competition without them knowing it.
On the other hand, please do continue to list your mods, as I do also. It is nice to be able to see that 3 wheelers are still alive and see the type of work that is being done to them. Also it is nice to be able to size yourself up to the rest of the crowd, considering you don't run into that many fellow riders on the trails much anymore. Plus, were are all on here to have a good time, and ride.

yea but its how much you you port and so on. its not what you have its how you did it. for example if someone says " i ported my cyl. today" it dont mean jack to you because he never said how much he ported it. also if someone says "i just put a 38mm crarb on my ride" bur hes not saying what jets, if its a flatside or not, or what brand.
im no racer or know it all by any means at all. but it makes sense to me. my 2 cents though.

Mods dont mean much... without a skilled rider and basic tuning abilities...

It's 95 Percent About The Rider. My First Bike Was Zx5 When I Was 15. Good A Way In A Straight Line, Handled Like A Dumptruck Through The Corners. Next Was A Cbr600, And I Could Ride That Thing To Its Scrapers. Then It Was The Infamous Jixxer. Then Finally An R1 And I'll Tell You What, There's Only About 100 People In The States That Can Ride One Of Them To It's Full Potential. Ever Notice The Ex Highschool Jocks Are Always Riding Them, And It Scares Them So Bad They'll Never Be Fast Again. I'll Take The Rr And Ride Circles Around Them. Most Is About The Rider

i like seeing and hearing what other people do to their bikes to squeeze horses out of them. not only is a bragging right for the owner, but it also gives others ideas on set-ups they might like to try. im not the type to boast about my bikes, dont try to hide much either, if i got a mod done, i'll let yahs all know. im not out to beat anyone else, i dont race, but i do like speed and seeing just what i can do to my bikes to improve them in any department.

I like sharing info for the most part. Anyone can ask me any question about setup on my flat track bike and I'll give you a straight answer on it with whatever details you need. I do that because I think that by helping you, you'll also help me down the road. In addition to tht, if you get faster, then I have to experiment, and get faster too. It keeps going back and fourth like that, everyone gets better and better all the time. Thats what competition is all about to me. I'm not really into all that secretive *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*.

At the flattrack races i race on my shee EVERY engine builder there says "that bike that just one pro is stock with porting" i know they are full of crap. Where i race it is a big deal. I personaly dont care i just run open.
But to your main topic what your talking about is all, getting more for what you paid. Less mods and you beat a BUILT bike then you REALLY on top. its all about $ vs speed.

If we all kept our mods to ourselves then nobody would gain from this site don't you think? We're all here to help each other grow and be faster.
Mind you those quad riders will never know they got smoked by anything more then a "fast 250".

so true man. good point. most of our goals are to prove these old "deadly" machines are capable of hanging or even beating quads on the track, dunes, mud, and so on.

So that's the infamous Mantis? Sick looking ride for sure, it looks like a 3-wheeled muscle car, low in the front and jacked in the back!
Also, does lightening your crank and flywheel do much? Probably lets you rev your machine faster, huh?
