Well its time to get all new chains and sprockets. I was running 15/38 and a did chain. 1st question: Is it alright to run a front parts unlimited and a rear jt sprocket?
2. To run the 15 you have to use a 3/8 pitch half link, the roller is larger in the middle of the half link than the chain, so could this potentially hurt the sprockets? I didnt really watch it last time but it made alot of ticking.
3. Everytime I have to ride someone back on the back of my trike one of the chain roller ALWAYS breaks.. Why would this happen? Could it be from too much weight or just the teeth hooking after time?

Sorry for all the simple questions but I dont feel like ruining brand new sprockets right away

clicking could come from to tight of a chain. mine did that till i loosened it. as far as miss matching sprockets. yea you can do it as long as they are the same chain type. a 200x uses 520.

Hm? Ill check if it needs loosened. But right now its on the tightest setting and it seems ok, but you can tell it needs a new chain because at the beginning it kept alot more tension at a lower setting. Yeah there both 520 sprockets, the parts unlimited is off a 250r I think. I had to grind down the outer ring part for the clip to fit on though.

One more question, Will loose rear carrier bearings hurt the chain in any way?

yes. its not good for the chain or sprocket.

The worn carrier bearings will make your axle pivot around and cause your sprocket alignment to change, which will increase wear on the teeth, rollers and sideplates of your chain.

I'd guess that the constant pressure against the roller from riding double is causing it to break, is it the bolt that snaps off??

Why can't you run a regular pitch half link for a 520 chain?, that one you run can't be good for the sprockets. Either adding or removing a link and or using the half link I'd think you'd have plenty of adjustment. But, if you carrier and or swingarm bearings aren't so great your probably loosing some adjustment.

I dont know if it was bad or not. I ran it since last winter and I just replace the whole setup today with a nice DID professional chain and a 14 tooth front sprocket. No more half links for me :)

YOu stated your using a 3/8 pitch half link, you do realize that 520 is 5/8 pitch chain (#50 Chain works its just wider).

Yeah it says 3/8 pitch right on the little pack. It works on a DID professional chain so i dont know?

I got a standard 86 link chain today and a 14tooth front sprocket. I read on here a while ago they have up to 2 links of adjustment? Well 86 links it too short and 87 is too long. I put a half link in just for today and see how it works. But most likely im going to just get a stock 13 tooth sprocket and deal with the horribly low speeds :(

does anyone offer a smaller rear sprocket? I will be in this same situation when i replace mine...was hoping to go to a 14 or 15 front and 34 to 36 rear if available.

Hey guys, Contact sidewinder... They sell chains - sprockets.. I saw in a quad mag that you can get a chart from them (FREE) telling you what gearing to use for your needs. I.E. more top speed- more torque- or inbetween.. And they could probably hook you up with the proper sprockets and chain.. Hopefully this will help you out.. :TrikesOwn

Well, I got the 14 tooth from the honda shop for 12 bucks. It is from a 250x/300ex but fits perfectly on the shaft on my 200x. They dont make 15 tooths that FIT on a 200x shaft. I matched the spline pattern to a 15t 250r sprocket and grinded down the inner ring of it which made it wider and the clip wouldnt go on. It worked great too until it wore out. The only thing I didnt like about it was alot less power, when i got into a rut it struggled spinning the tires with me on it. The 14 is way better for accelleration and power for that kind of stuff. Yeah sidewinder will make rear sprockets for them I think, but you can only go a little smaller or else the hub wont fit on it.

If you get a 15 tooth with stock 38 rear you will need a half link or a 1-2 tooth smaller rear. But that will seriously kill alot of useable power!
