KTM is staying strong with the twostrokes, unlike the Jap manufacturers.

The latest machine in the offering is a 300 cc two stroke with electric start!!! Can you say awsome?! Would make a great trike engine for the guys that want a performance trail rider and the nice e-start option but don't want the 350X.

I'm absolutely smitten with the new 525 KTM ATV but this 300 e-start motor would be so nice in a 400EX chassis as an all around play quad that I'm seriously considering buying one to do the swap.

Anyone know what the wheel/crank hp number is on this motor? Mid 40's at the crank? ScottZJ get in here! I know you have the non e-start 300.

Ahh plans plans plans....

This is the first e-start twostroke dirtbike?

I say mid 40's is right. The 300's aren't really peak horsepower motors they are more about bottom end torque and grunt. Don't forget gas gas is still making the two strokes too :w00t: let's hope both companies make them for several more years to come. Btw, if you are interested, I looked up the specs on the two ktm xc300 bikes, the one with non e start and the one with it, and the weight difference was 8 or 9 pounds. There are some other cool features some of the newer bikes have. I know the gas gas 2 strokes for the last few years have had a programmable ignition with two modes, a sunny and rainy mode. The sunny mode has more of a hard power hit, and the rainy mode mellows the power out so that more traction can be obtained, pretty cool idea. I could buy a kit to retrofit my 04, but not interested in spending what it would take to do it.

Yeah I love my 300exc and I am sure they have done nothing but added power and performance. The E-start would be a really nice feature even though its easy to kick over.

Suspension is top notch on them from the factory, even with my big tail on it, rides like a dream. Oh and I love the looks of anything KTM makes.

Definately well crafted machines. I have my dirtbike, an 01 KX250 that is getting the motor swap treatment. Going to be a handful in the woods but I like that sort of thing.
