what is it your trying to do? you can play with the gearing for more low end or increased top speed if your in alot of wide open areas.

ICP's short and sweet answer is close to the truth... Back in the day there were some companies out there that could build a 200X like you couldn't believe but I've contacted a couple of them and they have moved on to newer machines.
If your happy with your X a pipe, jetting, cam , HC piston will help it out but it will still be a 200X.
My bud just dropped 600$ into his X and that brought his grand total to 2000$, I tried to explain to him that a stock 350X in nice shape could be bought for that amount but he wanted his 200X.
To each his own, I wouldn't own an unmodified 200X but I also wouldn't own anything but an 86 200X; it is light years ahead of the 83-85.

ha I was just in your same shoes, I put a cam in it, pipe , a HC piston, and changed my gearing. Overall the gearing felt like it made the biggest difference, plus its the cheapest and easiest to do, Overall If I had the chance to do it again, I wouldnt, the onlly thing I would change is the stock gearing cuz it seams way to low to me anyways.

I wouldn't bash on the little first gen 200X, it's a great technical trails machine because of it's small size and light weight. Cheapest way to give it more power is, find a used carb and intake from an xr200R, cam also from an xr, and give it a high comp. piston, don't forget exhaust. A fast one can be built from ebay parts easy, there's no mystery too it. That motor has been in the bikes forever. I think powroll makes a 216 stroker kit for it still. But yeah, the 86/87 models were lightyears ahead and had a 4 horse advantage.
