Ok so I keep seeing this Triz in the craigslist here for "$500 must sell" for a couple weeks here with no takers. I kept telling myself that I do not need another trike to store, but as usual I gave in and had to look at it because it was only 15 mins away. Got there and the thing has been sitting in his brothers garage in san diego for over 10 years. Its really clean with low hours with some aftermarket goodies...Hi-flight seat, CRF pipe, Mikuni 38mm carb., Mossbarger reedcage, and paddles. The guy didnt really no what he had and just wanted to clean out his garage. I threw a low-ball offer for $350 and he accepted it. How could I refuse?! Its been a long time since I had a triz and it was actually the first performance trike I started on.
Couple questions: Are the underseat tanks discontinued? The cap on this one wont lock because plastic is cracked. Any home brewed fixes on this?
Does anyone have any experience with the CRF cone pipe? Or CRF anything?

Amazing machine for that price. You just got the deal of a lifetime. Tanks are on ebay all the time and dont demand lots of money. Caps i believe are still availiable. The pipe is a great vintage piece that is probably worth almost what you paid for the whole bike. Keep it and bring another z back! Plus it's a 85.5:w00t:

That pipe...is like the best one there is for a Z. Even the Klemm pipe. Only the second one I've ever seen before. You got a super duper rare one, hang onto it. CRF stands for "Crotch Rocket Factory"

Just been going through the bike today with changing all the fluids and oils. It starts right up. Havent had a chance to take it up the street as I dont have any dirt tires laying around for a yamaha. The motor skid plate is a malcom smith brand. Now that is old school1 Im glad this trike fell into the right hands as I will take pristine care of it, rest asure guys.
Thats a bummer about the tank discontinuation I actually had another tank in one of my parts bins but it is also crackd in the same area.
Heres another one by me. This ones for $200!! I gotta stop checking that site out.

Thats what I'm hoping for. I sent him an email but no response yet. I know the tanks are 20+ years old, but I think the AZ heat also does something to the tanks that makes them a little more brittle around here.
Bryan, the tires seem pretty soft and lightweight. I glanced at them and looked like a 2 ply. The hubs on the back look strangely unlike any hubs I have seen on a Z before. I will have to get picks for you to tell.
Also got one of Ronnies alum impellers and red sprocket covers on the way. No need to risk having the oem plastic impeller go out.
Dammit!

Cool image BigGreen. So does anyone know if CRF was just a pipe company?
Here is a pick of the back hubs. I've had two Tri-Z's before this long ago and I dont remember the hubs looking like this...
