After about a year of planning and getting parts, I would like to share my progress so far. This build features a SR300 kit, +3 swingarm, 01 Raptor shock, old school DG exhaust and a 38mm Mikuni. I’m just waiting for a few parts to come in to get it finished but here’s what I have so far. It won’t be long before she’s ready. I hope to have it done in a few weeks, I will post updated pics as it slowly gets finished.

Hey Justin , looks like your doing a real good Job there. White frame with red boots. What color fenders are you going with? Did you ever find a frame that you were looking for? Franks swinger, sweet. Looks like I might have to step it up a knotch for TF08. I dont want to have the uglyest T3 at TF. As far as the drags go ,mabe you could give me a head start. LOL . Like I said , your project looks awesome so far and I can't wait until you finish it. You do great work buddy .

Keep it up ! Lopes

Hey Lopes, I don't think your bike is going to loose any beauty contests against this one. (You got a sweet trike) There will be alot to do on this one even after I get it up and going. Right now I just want to get it running and ride worthy. I still want to get a nicer frame and have it plated also I want to have alot of stuff powdered or plated but for right now I just need to get it done. It should move. The fenders and tank are red. I'm waiting on a rubberized exhaust bracket as soon as that comes in it's on.

Sounds good Justin. If theres anything I could do to help out just let me know. If you need some stuff plated like on my T3 you could send it over and I could run it up there for you . The price of plateing is very reasonable. Keep in touch Lopes

Thanks Matt, I will consider that. What kind of prep work did you do before you took your stuff in?

Just removed all the paint if any . Don't sand blast the axle if it has paint on it. Just use gasket remover or something that will not eat away at the nerling finish. Everything else can be dirty or sandblasted. They clean everything before they plate it. They can not clean away paint. Thats all.

I tell ya guys I'm itchin for that bracket. Yeah, Scoot It's a stock extention. A very cool member here made it for me. I like the colors and have seen a few trikes on here like it a while ago and it inspired me. My 1st t3 was red. So it seems only fitting that I should have one again. Eric, How's that 86 looking?

That's a really good looking T3 you got going there Justin. Spiritus Leonis wants to play with it already, but is bugging me for an extended swinger like you have, my trike is jealous of it. You gonna use the Sprock cool head? I just ordered a temp gauge for mine, I'm really interested in what kinda temps I'm running when it's 95+ degrees and I'm running it pretty hard. I'm interested to know how well it handles with the +3 swinger. I'd like to know how it handles for fast trail riding. I plan on entering a cross country racing series down here in Louisiana and east Texas. I'm sorta changing the set-up of mine some so it will last and perform on a racing circuit.

Keep the pics coming, lovin' it, Chris

Chris, if your going to be trail riding I would not recommend anything over a +2. There are some real nice champions on ebay, you should check them out.

Right now the 86 is stripped to the frame and basically just sitting there. I've been taking pics, but it will probably be after Christmas before I start on it again. Killing me though..lol. But keep up the good work on yours, looking great so far.

Thanks. Stick with it man, I know these things don't happen overnight. Especially with an 86 t3.

I took a few more pics of some stuff I did today. I mounted my white fender (I hate how maier dosen't drill the holes) but I think I did a good job on the line up. I also tried my nos red front fender. I think I like the white one though. The # plate and rear fenders are not mounted yet, I just put them on to see how it looks. So far I like it. As soon as I get the exhaust on I will mount the rear fenders. (more fun line up and hole drilling)

Well I have the day off and been working on it. I have brakes and a wheel on the front and have been playing doctor with the rears. I got a good master cylinder out of 2 for parts and a good rear caliper out of 3 of them. The rear system seems to be working good on the bench. I got the chamber mounted but my silencer that I wanted to use is not going to work because the frame does not have the right mount. The silencer off my 84 will work fine, I might have to rob it. Still have much to do but I hope to have it done by the weekend.
Rid3r, the extention was done by Moose53.

EDIT: Put the carb on and found that my cable is way too long, so I got another one on the way. The 38mm takes up alot of space compaired to the stocker. Other then the cable it's been a good day. Here's some pics.

Got some more work done today. She has brakes, tires and chain on. Fenders are mounted up and I have a choice of seats.(not sure which one to go with yet) Basically waiting on throttle cable and silencer to finish it off. Sprocket cover and shifter need to be put on and need kill switch wired. Other then that it’s a go.

Paule, That’s a Maxxis razr front tire 22 x 8 x 10.

Doing a great job on this T3 . The 3 in swinger gives it a great look. Can you imagine if John (red T3), Ed (green), Jeff (tekawte 87 T3) ,Atc Eric (87 T3) , Sandpuppie(85 T3), you , your brother and I took a trip up to Silver Lake next year. It would be like were back in the 80s.The invation of the 3 wheeled Kawies! Awsome! Anyway ,it looks great!!!

Ange's T3 is nice looking, I thought I seen another one like it too. I like the green with white frame as well. Ultimately, I want a frame chromed plated for it but that will have to come in time.

After all the remaining stuff trickled in, I was able to get it running and WOW is the only thing I can say. This thing kicks like a disgruntle mule, I had to put on my *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* kickin boots. I never had to kick anything over like that. Just a word of advice, don’t where tennis shoes and try to start this engine. This top end should absolutely scream. I’m so pumped up I want to get it more broke-in on Saturday and the give her the fuel on Sunday. Today I just started it and basically didn’t take it above 1/4 throttle and let it run for about 4 minuets. I will check my head bolts before I actually ride it. I’m not sure it the carb is a Mikuni TM or TMX? I went with a 50 pilot and a 270 main jet. It did not want to idle so I guess I should go smaller on the pilot? I don’t intend on doing a whole bunch of idling in the near future though. Here’s a few more pics of the finished (for now) product.

Awsome Justin, it came together beautifully. Did you use a stock piston or one from Sprock? I know what you mean when you say don't wear tennis shoes to kick start it, I hurt my foot last weekend because I was too lazy to get my boots on, well, I'll know better next time.

WOW!! It turned out sweet. Now your gonna have fun! Whats the comprestion at? Mabe you should start with a bigger main jet at work your way down . You don't want anything crazy to happen. Can't wait to run with you and chris down the drag strip next year at TF . Its going to be a great time. Later Lopes

BGM, I think i will use the cover with the logo.
Chris, that's the piston that Sprock sent me.
Lopes, Not sure about compression but it kicks harder then my 84 (way harder). I might give it a test for fun. Do you think that main is too small? It's that largest one that come with the White Brothers kit I had. I could go larger but I will have to go to my dealer. Anybody else run a Mikuni tm or tmx? I just left the needle in it's center position. I would hate to blow this monster up.

Ya thats pretty high. Mine is at 190 psi. I'm using 110 torco fuel. I tried 93 and it didn't work out to good. Your going to need a slow burning fuel. A 270 is pretty small unless it was 90 + degrees out. I might be wrong but I would buy a 280 290 and a 300 at start at top and work my way down. What did you tork your head nuts at?

ccdhowell
09-27-2007, 08:50 PM
Well now I'm curious as to what number for compression mine puts up. Think I'll check it this weekend. Don't know what that Sprock piston is supposed to fit, but it sure works well in the bored Tecate.

Justin I'd go bigger on the main jet and put the needle clip down one, and maybe a size up on the pilot. Don't want to chance that strong new engine. I thought I had my Kiehin tuned spot on recently and it turned out too lean on long deceleration, ran really well lean, but it was too lean, don't risk it.

You could have the combustion chamber opened up to add volume to the squash band which will drop your compretion. What size is the bore on that cylinder? What cylinder are you running, KX or KXT . Is it a iron liner or did you have it reniked?

hadar

It's a Razr front 20 x 8 x 10, I noticed greater straight line stability on my 85, So I thought I would try it again.

I will get some larger jets to be on the safe side. As far as torque on the head I can't remeber, I built the engine last year. They were tight but need to be checked again after the break-in. I'm just running 93 oct. I can hardly afford it, Let alone 110. But I might have to start saving my pennies if it gets hot and/or starts making funny noises.

It's an electro-fused bore with a 300cc piston and stock head but milled to fit new size piston. I heard the piston is for a jet ski but I am unsure of that. One of those cool heads Sprock makes may be the answer.

I’m an idiot. It is a 370 I don’t know why I said 270. I must of been thinking about banshee carbs. So you guys were dead right to suspect a 270 to be small. It’s a 370 for sure. I think 215psi is way to high to run pump gas so I’m going to see what Sprock can do for me. Thanks for the encouraging comments all. I plan to get it done right by taking my time, asking questions and buying the necessary goods.
