yamahondaman made a few sets of rear shock/linkage stainless bolts and washers. these fit great and look way better than the oem green and gray hardware. look at all them yamahondaman bolts and hardware in the tray!:w00t:
got a marvin shaw rear shock on the way (comp) $250, today im lowering the front , and im NOT sliding the tubes up like alot of others do. ill post shots later..

no snipping, if you do that , when the spring runs out of tension, then it will freely slide up the tube, then, BANG!

It wouldn't suprise me to see...er....HEAR a lil more cc in some of the Rags next TF. I know my T4 got a new displacement configuration. It may actually be fast this time....got me a YZ connecting rod in there. Just adding Yamaha Parts is good for a few ticks! Heck, why not mix and match, afterall, its got a Jet Ski PISTON!

I'm sure your new build will be as nice as anything else you roll out, no doubt. Keep at it and post more pics.


BTW, Ronnie...seeing how ya got about $600 in yer lil 2fiddy, how bout I give ya a nice cool $1200 and you can double your $$$$$$! :D

oh boy........ you sure seem to be wasteing time with that powervalve. I think there are some old conversion threads on here that basically say that there is no real difference in power. I ran a powervalve set up on my Z for a few races. I tried all kinds of pipes, even a 86 YZ pipe. I was even running a YZ CDI unit and everything. I was able to get a little more out of it with the drag pipe, but not enough to convince me to keep it on there. There is very little difference in that lightly modded Z and a powervalve engine.

p.s.

If someone else thinks its a good idea i will sell them my powervalve set up. It's an 86 ported top end. it probably has a few hours on the new bore. I also have two 85 yz top ends which have the biggest power valve. I'll make someone a good deal on it.

1st.. i dont have a "conversion", i wouldnt want to do all that b.s. swaping. i put the whole complete engine in the z, plain and simple
2nd.. them year yz engine you listed only have a few more ponies than a stock 32hp z i use an 1983, BIGGEST intake , largest exhaust port, and 9 ports, unlike the years you listed. i have installed them years and you are right on one thing,:rolleyes: those years do no make a big enough power increase to make it a worth while swap.
3rd.. i did this four years ago, for woods riding only, once i figured out that when the powervalve in the 1983 engine opens TWICE the size of the z cylinder, i found it was way better suited for drag than the tri-z engine i once had in it
4th.. i dont use a Heavy, outdated YZ electrial system either, the ys flywheel IS lighter than the z one but not like the pvl/motoplat i have. you should buy one, you will never go back you see how great they are. try a five ounce flywheel:rolleyes:
5th.. swingarm lenth. the man that bulit and designed it (yamahondaman):w00t: spent the last twenty years researching the correct lenth and found the plus 12 to be the best for the tri-z in the drags, any other lenth spins or wheelies. all them welded up heavy swingers do work , but weight matters, and i dont want a 22-25 lb swinger on my tri-z, thats why for years i ran a stock swingers.

I just thought I would through this back in the loop. I believe it was a tecate that kicked all your as*es (not including the street bike). And you can ask everyone that was there, the chic on the 370 was the best in show for the weekend. And I do belive her husband was pretty fast himself. I don't know this guy...but seeing where he is from, I am assuming it is the guy I saw at the TriCounty ATV Dirt Drags a few weeks back. You run a TriZ with a big ole drag pipe? If so...I have no doubts Nathan's Z will put a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* whooping on you. I have raced his TRAIL BIKE...The Black and Red Z with the YZ in it....and from watching your run, your Drag Bike got nothin on it. Nothing. Yours makes some noise, but your times and speeds? Looked aweful slow to me. Now, before ya get all pissy and such, YOU are the one who started the negative posting and I am just giving some background on YOUR creds. Do me a favor and post up a pic of your timeslips from that night. I can compare them with what my buddy ran on his YFZ and to what my Tecate4 ran there. I know how my T4 ran compared to Nathan's Z...just a bit slower (Good thing I had the ATCR Conversion to win a few ;) ) and I would be willing to bet ALOT that my T4 would put a beating on your Z. :twisted:

PS, My T4 is in pieces...new engine sittin in the frame...I have yet to run this one, but it SHOULD be faster. This one is a BB Stroker, but bigger is not always better, so time will tell. :D

i think its funny . we built my motor in the trailer at tf did 2 heat cycles on it and to the drags we went . no tuning , setup work nothing . mixed some fuel and we went . 15 min portjob didnt do to bad ....put it on several good running bikes while we were in indiana . dont get me wrong there were alot of good bikes there i just wish i would have had time to get it done , set it up , break it in , tune it and gear it before we left not a hour before the race . just like everyone else did . o well i still beat raffa in a grudge race and it should be on video ..................haha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha sorry brian didnt mean to say that it just slipped ....lol

Alls I know is 2 things.

For the past 3 years I have been at the top, or in this years case, at least near the top, with a bone freaking stock cylinder on an engine that has nothing but bolt ons-and relatively mild ones at that.

Viper, I wish I would have got to race you but that base gasket sucked in on me and I didn't want to chance leaning it out. I don't know whether the 500 will be at TF next year or not, but if it is I'm lookin forward to running with you and anyone else. :beer:

Ill have to get you some slips and you can compare them to whatever you want. dont qoute me on that but i beleive it was 68mph??? not sure. probably not as fast at the T4 woud go if it was running, but respectable.

Is that the same T4 you had tore up a month ago? I havent seen your T4 up there all year come to think of it.

So I grabbed up a lt 500 complete clucth basket,inner hub assm. and pressure plate,jerked a tri-z bottom end off the shelf to research this.
Here are my findings and questions for you.
1)The rear gears are near identical.That is cool.But,when you speak of the needle bearing assm,That is 1/16 larger than the Z input shaft.Now provided,you find some one to machine the lt500 inner sleeve, that hurdle can be overcome.In the pics you will see the needle bearing is way too large for the Z input shaft,and that also the inner needle bearing sleeve for the lt 500 is too SMALL to fit over the shaft.Hence where the machining would come into play.
2) The inner hub for the lt500 has a 6 spline count,as the tri-z inner hub would have a 13 tooth count.Now I dont have Z inner hub to see if that would fit in the lt 500 basket.I do,but I aint strippin a motor just to find out..
3)The Tri-z clutch steel plates have a totally different tooth pattern than the Lt500.
I am pretty sure the Z inner hub IS too shallow to hold all 8 clutch plates that the lt500 requires.So, mixing and matching the parts between the 2 machines,is almost out of the question.Unless you machine 1/8 of an inch off the lt basket fingers to shorten it up some.

4)One last problem I for-see,Is The lt 500 basket is really wide near the gear,vs. the Tri-z basket.
Now any one who has seen the Z motor assembled,can tell that with a stock Z basket,There is only about 1/8 inch of clearence to the kicker gears.I am afraid that even if you do all this sleeve and needle bearing maching,That the lt 500 basket will hit on the Tri-z kicker gear assm.
Like I said I was very interested in this swap,and I am not saying it cant happen,But for that time and money,I will stick with the new aftermarket baskets that will be coming out shortly.
The first pic shows the Z basket on the left and Lt basket on the right.The rest are just research pics that I took.

The teeth count and size of the gears are about where the Similarities stop.Even the center inner hubs of the gears are 2 different sizes.So you cant even take the bronze bushing out of a Z gear and use it in The lt500 gear.
In all honesty,It would take a lot less time and effort modifying a shee Clucth to fit.

chain slap,,, yep our gonna have it , with a shock its gonna be worse than my set up ...only one weekend since installed run on it.. good thing i didnt polish it yet..not shure if any thing will fit in-between mine it so close.. maybe ILL smear axle grease all down the side of it for less drag..:eek: OMG my chain is dirty ,,I gotta go clean that:lol:

just take the countershaft seal out, then as the chain rotates, it will throw oil all over it, and lube the left side of the swingarm.just wipe it from time to time to get the dust off it.:eek:

i re-lowered the front again. i didnt like the stance it had with just four inches lowered.it has about four inches of fork travel now, which is not much, which i sit on it, i lose two inches... but it looks better i think;)

Whats wrong with you guys.. I got a STOCK throttle with a 83 R cable!! that opens a 48mm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF?:lol: I run that set up on all my carbs

thats like the one on the Brapp Bike and the 07 Rancher .. they put them on the YFZ 450's .. you need the 1985-89 ATC-TRX Thumb...

Nathan...I don't think that is a 250R throttle. I am almost sure it is the "X" version...250X, 350X, 300EX, 400EX...blah blah blah. Sell that one on Ebay...should be able to get a good bit for it all polished up like that.

Anyway, I used one on my Keihin and had to so some internal grinding to get it to pull open my PWK39 (40.1 actual bore) and it never did get 100% draw from it. I was about to break thru the side from the griding and figured about 98% pull was nuff. I KNOW you guys can't handle that...2% to you fellas is UNACCEPTABLE. Like the Guru above said...go for the actual R thumb...they gots a bit more pull distance.
