Ok I have just cleaned my 1983 atc 70 carb. Also sealed the gas tank, and put in a new plug with new gas lines. My pull start is broken so the only way of starting it is to push start it. Final: I pushed it in 4th gear and it did not even sound like trying to start.

Do you think when I cleaned the carb and hooked the new gas lines to the carb I put them on backwards. So its not getting gas?

NOTE:When I unscrew my new sparkplug it is as clean as clean and no smell of gas. When I push it in 4th gear with the plug unscrewed by the head of the motor and I get a big blue/purple spark.

I also took the carb back off again and the bowl is filled with gas the only thing I can figue is I didn't put the throttle back into the grooves of the carb exactly is that what it might be???

Here are some pics of the way I hooked up my new gas lines, tell me if I hooked them up wrong.

Are you getting a good spark, and is the plug wet when you take it out? Is your timing and points adjusted correctly?

Yes I am getting really good spark and the plug is not wet at all ?

But look at my pics I think I might of hooked up my new gas lines wrong?

try to switch eh. if it works then it was the problem. if it dont work switch em back. did you mess with the settings on the carb at all ?

spray some engine starter into the airfilter/carb, if it runs then you just have a simple fuel delivery problem, those old 70 carbs get finicky quick, thats why I dumped the one on my daughters ride and got a new carb for it, now it never misses a beat!

Yes I have messed with the setting like jets etc would that make it not even try to start?

Can you elaborate on "messed with"?

What exactly did you do with the carb?

You say you've sealed the gas tank, if you mean you've used something like a resin based tank sealer, have you made sure you have not blocked the metal pipes that come out of the tank,

^^took the words right outta my mouth...
if you think u have the lines backwards either try what 84honda said or take the carb off without tipping it much and make sure the bowl is filled with gas
im not sure with them 70s, but in the pic it looks to me like you have the gas turned off...make sure its on
and like syko suggested, spray some starting fluid or gas into the the carb, while doing this hold the throttle wide open so the slide comes up and it goes through the carb into the intake, if its starts or atleast trys to start then you know your not getting fuel to the engine, let us know..
what exactly did you do with the carb? was it running before you "messed" with the carb?
oh and a recoil makes things sooo much easier trust me ive been there lol, somehow, somewhere, get one!

Yes it was running about a year ago and a few days back I wasnt getting spark, well it was because of a loose wire but now I am getting good spark?

The only screws I messed with is the one in middle of the carb and the one to the lower left of the middle screw?

your sure the gas is on right?.. put the screws back to the stock settings, if you dont know the stock setting im sure someone here can tell you what it is..then try all the things mentioned above and let us know how u make out, try cleaning that carb out good too, im assuming you have very little mechanical knowledge so if none of the things mentioned above work i think its time to take it to a shop or if u have a buddy or family member that knows engines a little better work out a deal with him..sry thats about all i can tell ya man, good luck

I have some mechanical Knowledge. I cleaned the carb out and tryed gas lines both ways
I tryed to push start it with the switch on, I am using a brand new plug its getting good spark.

And I messed with the idle screw that shouldnt make it not try to start?

Ok 1 last thing if I take my carb out and theres little or no gas in the float bowl does that prob mean I am not getting gas ??? or what

NOTE: I unscrewed the petcock with the gas lines connected and switched the gas to on and gas flows into the screen on the carb

put a bit of gas in the plug hole and try and start it, and make sure you have the petcock turned ON.

hello all
well heres my two cents you can spend it or throw it out.

earlier this summer i had the same prob with a tri moto 4 wheeler i cleaned the carb a half dozen times checked the tank checked the wires still no start .

well after about a week i checked the clearances on the valves and low and behold the intake valve nut had worked loose throwing off valve clearance, adjusted it to specs and it started right up.

check your clearances it only takes a little while might be worth it for you .

good luck i hope it helps

Well i got it going a little with the air cleaner off then it make a poping sound and I have major gas leaks on my new lines and then You know what I mean man did it go Flames hit the tank almost. If I wouldnt of jumped off when I did I would of got burned severe??????
