Hi All,

I am trouble shooting on my 1979 ATC110 for a no spark issue. I had my friend rebuild the top end, but now it has no spark. I checked / replaced the coil with a known good one - Checked and then replaced the points with a known good (almost new) set. Still I get no spark. So I am thinking it is the Alternator / rotor - whatever it is called - the thing behind the pull start. Anybody know much about these old pre-CDI machines?

The manual says about using a puller to get the rotor off........I am sure I can make one, but once it is out - what am I looking for / at? Does the "rotor / alternator" do more than just provide for the lighting?

also - the headlight switch looks like someone did some soldering on it at one time (this is the old switch that mounts on top of the headlight bucket.) How can I take that switch out of the picture for testing purposes - ie bypass it.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim
PS - here is the wiring diagram for anyone who can tell me how to bypass the headlight switch for testing

i have a 79 110 to and mine had no spark. go over all your connations and sure they are all hooked up and clean, make sure the ground is clean and you are thinking about the stator, i didnt need a puller to get it off, all you need to do is take the pullstarter off and i think it is 3 bolts and then all you need to do is wigle it out.

hope that help!

edit: did you put a new spark plug in it?

All connections are good - ground is good - checked spark with a plug out of a running machine - so I know it is good.

I guess I should replace the stator and see what happens.

have you pulled the stator out yet? when i pulled mine it was rusty, so befor you go spending money you dont have to, pull it and see if it and or the flywheel has rust on it, if it does just use some finer sandpaper on it and give that a try.

OK - I pulled the stator. The stator and the rotor are covered in rusty and crap. So I will clean them up. I assume that the stator is what powers up the points and the coil. Is this where they get there electrical power from?

If so - I would think that is my problem. I'll update once I get it cleaned up and re-assembled.

Check your connections at the kill switch. I went crazy looking for a problem like this and found the wire was crimped inside the kill switch.

OK - I cleaned the rust off the stator and rotor. Put it back in and nothing. Any other suggestions?

tomorrow I will replace the stator with another.

Please - if anyone has had similar problems with machines with points and no spark, please share you findings. I am in a bind here. I have never had this much trouble getting a machine with no spark to get it rag and run.

wow, still no spark... um, did you gap the points right? and like PaTriker take a look at the kill switch.

OK - I got spark - It was indeed a bad stator. So now with the new stator installed, it will run, but not rev out. I have been through the carb numerous times (litterally like 6 times) - it is clean and free of all and any dirt and debris. Anyone know alot about points that can help me out fine tuning this beotch run right. BTW - it has a DG pipe and a filter right off the carb - no air box. Do I need a bigger jet or what's the deal? I think it is still a points issue - maybe a new set of points are in order now - and maybe a new coil too. Also - 1 more thing - the carb only has 1 removable jet in it - the main. What is up with this? The secondary jet looks pressed into the carb.

the points should be set at .014

My 125 that is a work in progress runs fine without any filter or anything - carb is open on the sucking end. This has got to be a points / or maybe a carb problem. Could be the coil too? I don't think it is because of the lack of an airbox - but I will try it and post the results.

me and my brother always seem to have better luck getting them running rite woth a stock air box on them.
