Modifying rad carrier?

I have this old rad carrier thats pretty beat up inside and wont work correctly with the tapered bearings it suppose to have. I was thinking about using a dremel to grind out the tapered part so that it could use regular oem bearings. Would there be any issues with doing this??

You'll never pull it off. Bearings are a press fit which require a housing a couple thousandths of an inch smaller than the OD of the bearing. It can be done but has to be done on a lathe. If you had the hand eye coordination to open up an aluminum housing and achieve a press fit, you'd be a genius.
