I just picked up a 1984 70 for 50 bucks and brand new tires. Its not GREAT, but its better then i expected! It shifts through all gears, has good compression, spark. But the carb is kinda screwed up. The choke lever is broken off and the little cap for the top is missing, along with the spring. Would anyone happen to have a whole new carb and cap? I filled the float up with some gas and it didnt start, but could this be from a faulty plug? The plug now sparks but its a yellow/white color. Any other tips on how to get this thing going? I would like to by tomorrow if possible :wondering

You can get that choke assembly from dratv.com. You can get a new carb if you want too, but I would just get the choke assembly and a rebuild kit. The pilot jet is so tiny on the 70 and plugs easily. If the carb was dirty just replace it. Check the points gap, valves, new plug, should be good to go if compression is there, unless the points are shot.

A new plug is the first thing I would do, eliminate the cheap and easy potential problem. As for the carb., there are used ones all over and new Chinese knockoffs as well. The Chinese ones have the choke on the wrong side but I have heard that they still work; I have yet to try it though. DRATV.com is a great place to get parts from, I highly recommend them.
Sounds like you will need to get the carb. taken care of before you can ride it so I doubt you will have it going today.

Anyone ever get one of those new carbs from ebay? There only like 30 bucks, might be worth a shot?

I dont know anything about 70s but its really simple as I can see so far. I got a new plug for it today and it has great spark. Not sure how much the compression is suppose to be but I can turn it over with my hand fairly easy. I just need a cap for the carb now and I should be able to rig the choke temporarly. I did do a test today by manually filling the float bowl to see if it would crack today but no luck. Theres something else wrong besides getting fuel and spark though. It wouldnt even start on ether. If this dosent work out im probably just going to get a new lifan since there so cheap. I dont see how you can go wrong, fixing this engine would probably cost as much as a new 110 engine? Thats if it has serious problems.

just spray some starting fluid dowm the top of the carb with the silde and stuff out. it'll run for a couple seconds to tell you if the motor is good enough to run

I plan on doing that tomorrow deifinatly. Right now im just messing with the pull starter. It wasnt recoiling right and I noticed that right under the plate that holds the pawls in, that there should be a spring. So its not fully recoiling. But I guess it will do for now to just get it to run. About the lifans though, these are a direct bolt in right? Only thing that needs to be done is modify the wiring and fender?

i'm not sure on the 110 models but i've heard that the 125's and 138's the exhaust is like an inch too short. people buy xr50 dirtbike pipes and they are supposed to be a close fit other than some bending.

The Lifans are a direct bolt in, the include all the wiring you need. XR/CRF 50 dirtbike pipes work great but you need to bend them over. They also sound nice (I personally like White Bros. R4 for a nice quiet and deep rumble).

reply to your questions---try poring a little fuel down the spark plug hole then reinstall your spark plug try that it is runs then stops it is your carb in question that needs attention. Have you clean the carb out could be blocked jets inside. The spark plug sounds like it burning fine but you might want to try a brand new one if you have pored a little fuel down the cylinder and it still doewnt start soark plugs are hit and miss. A LITTLE TRICK IS TO heat up your spark plug with a torch or lighter just to heat it up but dont scorch it them place it in cylinder. As per your missing parts if you have a motorcycle wreckers buy you take your carb in and they could more than likely help you on the missing pieces/and broke piece without having to buy another carb...GOOD LUCK
