Going to look at both..... SX 85/X 84 and the same price.

Does the SX have a clutch? Also is the SX sporty at all or is it just like a hoped up 200s with shaft drive....

Which do you prefer and why....

The 250SX has suspension on both sides, it's geared pretty low though. I think both machines will probably hit the same top speed, but the SX is heavier and has less in the way of suspension than the 200X. The SX will mudbog and go through trails very well though.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't see your other question. No, the SX doesn't have a clutch. For trail riding and technical terrain (what the SX is meant for), a clutch is over-rated anyway.

It just depends on the type of riding you are going to do. Ive had both and only kept the sx. Dont think of the sx as a non-sport bike, think of it as a cross between the 200x and the 250es. It has enough suspension for smaller air and a nice comfotable trail ride + it has decent top end speed. The bottom end is where is really shines, it will climb real nice and pull quite a load in 1st.

With the 200x you get more suspension which will mean alot if you plan on spending alot of time in the air:Bounce and it has the smaller front tire which can give you better handling (unless you are in snow or deep mud) and it gets up to top speed a little quicker then the shaft driven sx. You wont have electric start or reverse with the x and you do have a clutch.

All and all they are both good bikes but if you were only going to have 1 good all around bike Im a firm sx fan.

200x and use a 185s or 200s auto motor. you'd have a fun sporty trail machine then...whats what im building.

Oldskool sounds like a cool project post some pics along the way.

Where are people getting the racks for the SX? Are they stock option or aftermarket add on?

I had a 200X and got rid of it to buy a 250SX. If you like sport than your better off getting the 200X but if you like utility / sport I would go with the 250SX. But the 250SX is more utility than sport. Just my opinion:TrikesOwn

Based on the fun to ride factor I'd get the 200X. My 200X is a lot snappier and quicker then my dads 250SX is. Granted his doesn't run bad, its just not as responsive and they seem to lumber around and are top heavy compared to a 200X. When I ride my dads 250SX I always feel like its gonna roll anytime I take a corner. The 200X sits lower, is wider and a lot more stable. The X will mod easiest IMO.

I loved the 250sx that I had for a year, it was perfect for all the trail riding and the occasional ride up and down the streets when it snowed. Fun bikes, they have reverse, push button start, and the other stuff listed above. I have only riden a few 200x's but didnt really care for them since they are basically a 200s with a suspension and a clutch. Like everyone else is saying, its all about the riding you do and terains you do it on. Good luck!

its you do go with the 250sx watch out for differential issues, other than that those bikes take a BEATING and run for ever!
