My clutch is stock and shot.I want to replace it with something aftermarket, I usually ride trails here on the Northeast but have recently gotten into some sand down south and places like Durhamtown Plantation, Glamis, and Silver Lake. What clutches are the best in your guys opinion. The motor is on the first bore, FMF pipe, rad valve,geared,38 Kiehin carb, stock bottom end.

most after market clutchs are thinner then stock and will cut into the basket quick
you cant go wrong with stock discs and barnett springs

Thanks-I have heard there was a recall on the clutch mechanism for the 85/86 trx, they are the sane as the 250r's arent they? Are Barnett springs readily available for these machines by chance?

not a recall, but a change in design. Get a 89 update kit, 06220-hb9-305. If you want a super stiff pull, get barnett springs. For a normal cluth pull, get new oem springs or cr500 springs(much stiffer)

best set up i have found with a 250r clutch is the OEM disks and fibers, and 2 oem 250R springs, 3 500 springs stagger them, 500, stock ,500 ,stock ,500
u will notice a stiffer pull but it wont be annoying

wow, thanks guy for the help!
I'll order the fibers and clutch from Honda-the 500 springs they should be ordered from a 89 or a 86 cr 500?Thanks for the Honda parts # thats speeds up the process.

I don't know what cr500 springs I ordered, I think, I picked the most recent year (01). The cr500 motor didn't change much since 86 and stayed pretty much the same.

I also swear by OEM! I also use CR 500 springs. If you do a lot of trail riding on a stock motor, I would not use the heavier springs. You will hate it in the woods. Your hand will cramp up on long rides, especially in the tight stuff. I only run the heavier springs on my 330 motor because the motor overpowered the clutch and I tend to beat on it on the track. My woods bike is still on the original clutch from 22 years ago and works great but have to admit that I will probably need to replace it soon.
