went to the drags today. Only 3 trikes showed up. I brought the 85 Tecate, my buddy brought his 350X and there was a SICK 250R all built for drags. Me and my buddy found out after registering, that we would be racing ourselves for points only, so we bailed, but not before the practice runs, and some unofficial racing on the back stretch. On the back stretch before the offical practice runs, I smoked a banshee twice, I think it was stock, and the guy couldnt ride for doo-doo. Once we got onto the official track, with the christmas tree lights, things got a little harder. First I raced my buddy on his 350X, he left the line first, got a good holeshot, but I was able to blow past him mid-track. Then I lined up with a nasty sounding blaster, I bet it was a 240 kit. I figured he was easy prey, but again, my reaction time was terrible, and I wheelied really bad, had to shut her down and he beat me. here is the only pic that the wife took today, luckily you cant see the trail of dust that the blaster left as he blew my doors off. I was having problems rolling in the staging area and fouling out. I be I coulda taken him if I tried again, but he wouldnt do it. I guess he figured he got lucky once.

dude...nice pic...remember...2nd gear and SLAM IT!!!.....hehe... you shoulda kept at it with the blaster (i beat em all the time on a 200x)...that tecate shoulda blew his pants off even with a bad start :)
where are these drag races at, i might travel a little bit to see racing like that?

remember this Tecate, is mostly a garage queen. I have not turned a wrench on it at all. Ive only ridden it twice, once last year around the yard, and today at the races. I only brought it because I figured I would need some real speed to compensate for my less than novice drag racing skills. As far as the blaster goes, I was in full wheelstand mode off the line, he was a third of the way down the track by the time I gained control, I almost caught him, but 300 feet is not very far! We passed the finish and he was about a half bike length ahead of me. I did gain alot of ground on him, but off the line, he beat me.

still, you should have beat him... ....lol :D j/k :D :D :D at least you can prove to yourself how fast tecates actually are!
A Tecate can be a handful off the line. especially as short as the stock @$$ end of an 84/85 is. A good start is all in clutch control. 84/85 Power is all in the upper rpm range. Blasters are no problem for a Tecate if you can keep the power to the ground. If you can't then you lose. You can really see and appreciate the quickness of a Tecate if it's get jumped off the line and then it reals everthing back in. It just illustrates the rider experience, even in drags. Holic is new to organized dragging. This guy on the hopped up blaster wasn't and he had enough savvy not to run again as he figured he'd lose.
That's a great pic Holic!! :-D
nice input JEB. But what you don't know the shock is blown on the 85 too. once the shock tops out, it gets loose again. I think you need to ride it more HOLIC.
I LOVE red 85 T3s!! love the action shot too!!

Nice pic holic, I wish I could have made it. Why would they only let you race against your buddy for points? That blaster must have been hopped up pretty good because even when my buddy gets me on the hole shot with his blaster I fly by him like he's sitting still when I hit second gear.

When I read the topic,I thought you went to Englishtown to the NHRA nats. Gotta love them Blasters!!! :) It musta had a 240kit b/c drag racing a stock blaster is a waste of time. Sounds like you had a good time though.

i didnt mention how i killed the stock blaster, that was not worth a mention. What was very interesting to me is how I creemed that Banshee twice. WTF??? Im no expert rider, but this guy MUST have been worse than me!
