Well I rebuilt my whole carb on my 1983 atc 70 and the damm thing takes forever to start. I have to push it in gear to start and when it does run it still has no power and boggs, almost dies when I put it in 1st gear and fouls plugs if I can get it started?
NOTE:I am missing the little cap that goes on the choke lever I am thinking I am sucking air threw it. Also it won't idle at all unless I push in where the cap used to be with my thumb???
carb=garbage can............. ebay= new carb= running again
my daughters trx 70 was doing the same thing, I sold her old carb on ebay and bought her a chinness nockoff carb, now it runs like alittle chimp out of hell!

if it was the points the spark would be bad. Could be timing causing it to fire at the wrong time.

I went out yesterday stripped the carb on mine, put in a new carb kit, new plug, cleaned out the pit cock which was blocked and threw it together. Bike started second pull, idled perfect and away I went. Turned out my 2 adjustments 1 1/2 turns. So I am not good with my patiance or working on small parts that need to be perfect. After I realized the arm you are missing and the choke flap dont work on my bike, its wide open all the time and runs like a trooper. One pull now to start. I dont need the choke? Maybe you dont either.
