Need to clear the air on this.

ok after many hours of research i have came to the conclusion that i am gonna do a xr200 tranny swap on my 85 X. it will be a six speed:twisted: there is only a few things bothering me. will this bolt on directly? will i have problems since the XR bottom end kicks backwards? i was told that only early model xr's have the 6 speed? and motor mounts, from the pics i could find, it seems to me that some of the diffrent years have a close motor mount pattern. i also researched the newer xr200's and they appear to have a identical 200x motor except it looks more up to date. the casings are rounded smoother. im thinking a whole XR motor or just the tranny. not sure yet. i just wanted to get some feedback before i make a final desision. BTW some of the XR motors were electric start. this would eliminate the kicker problem but i love kick start.

i believe only the 86 and 87 are 6 speed 85 and earlyer are only 5 speed

yep your rite only 86-87 had a 6 speed trans. the 83-85 had 5 speed.


storm: sounds like a good project man. i hope it works out for ya. its so much cheaper to have a 6 speed the way your doing it rather than trying to find a 86-87 200x. good luck homie.

well everyone....:( im tired of tring to make this thing run. i have tried and tried and tried. i have rode it a few times, sometimes it hauls ass and sometimes it dont. i know its my carb but im done. i paid 400 for basically a frame and another 200 bucks for a motor not counting the new tires and other parts. im going to part the whole thing out. check the classifieds in a min if anyone is interested in parts. i have a few goodies a few of u might like:) sorry to just kill this thing but it has burnt a major hole in my pocket.

understandable homie. i know the feeling. if i were closer id help ya work the bugs out. ive had the same problem with my trike. ive got it just about tuned in to where it has to be. its still kinda "boggy" but i think if i put the e-clip up 1 spot it will lean it out to where i need it. i hate to see your trike go down like this but what ever you have to do man. i might be needing a 200x (83-85) head and cam sometime in the next couple weeks. if you are willing to sell em hit me with a pm and we will go from there. but if you have a different buyer go for it.
