Hey-
so my pull string likes to dangle inbetween my shifter and the case. it has alot of slack. and today it got about 8 more inches of slack. its not recoiling back! any ideas? i tried to fix it once but it didnt really help. could it be the spring or something?
its a 84 ATC200ES. crappy part is i just dont want to spend 90 dollars on a new battery.
Thanks fellow riders

well im sure someone else can give u better advice but just take it apart and inspect it my guess would be the spring as you said before but if it looks ok just try greasin it all up and try it.. you may need to wind the spring up more so it recoils back farther but i couldnt begin to explain how to do that on here..
www.denniskirk.com has new batterys for it for $36.95 plus $6.95 for shipping if the order is less than $100, free shipping if u order atleast 100$ in stuff.. heres the link for that battery http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=20738&store=Main&catId=1&productId=p200231&leafCatId=&mmyId=14935

your spring is just getting old and isnt as tight as it should be. the correct way to fix it is take the recoil off of the motor and wind the spring a few more times. A way that i came up with that seems to work well is taking the handle off of the rope and tape one end of a 2-3' piece of electric tape to one end.(tieing a piece of fishing line or thin string to the end of the rope may work too) I then fold the long part of the electric tape onto itself so its not sticky, and you have a long tail of electric tape hooked up to the rope. Then I spin the pully to draw in the rope with the tape. Spin it in a turn or two, and then carefully pull out the tape and there will be more tension on the spring when you pull the tape until the rope comes out. If theres not enough sping tension, give it a few more turns until the tension is right. (this should make more since when you have the recoil off and your handleing it)
*If you want a quick fix, you can leave the recoil on the engine and just untie the handle, cut off a small length of rope, and put the rope back on. This will work fine if your rope is plenty long to start off with.
