View Full Version : Shipping cost on parts from Honda dealer - way too much.

I just don't understand this .......

From a discount Honda dealer ( http://www.ridemsc.com/default.asp ) they wanted to charge me $14 to ship a lousy pair of rear brake pads then after me complaining they said they would do them for $10, still way too much I told them.

I just ordeded from http://prm-atv.com/ wich is in Oregon and shipped to PA (UPS ground) heavier (7lbs or so) more bulky items that need to come in a 3'X2'X1' or so box and the shipping is only 11.61. Now that seems cheaper to me then it should be, VERY reasonable!

I just wrote to them (Honda place) politly asking why this is so and can't possibly order any more parts from them because the shipping kills the savings on the discounted part.

I did mention the customer should have a choice whether he wants ground, 3 day or what ever, maybe that's the problem, I don't know ?

Do some places get huge shipping discounts if they ship so much or what? I would think the Honda place ships way more then the other place so that confuses me too.

You guys run in to this too. I just want an understanding why shipping varies such a huge amount, I understand it's cheaper depending on shipper and the time varible but this is ridiculous.

Im pretty shure the price of gas/fuel has something to do with shipping but most places make money on shipping also .. kinda like Ebay!

what did the box from prm say on it for shipping..was it really 11.61? or did they make a little?

Most of the places that have cheaper list prices make up for it on the shipping fees

Yea, that's for sure Billy, it's just that their shipping was reasonable at one time.

Bryan, I didn't receive the package yet but that is what I was charged, I have the receipt. Darn cheap !

It's for a Baja grab bar and skid plate and those prices for both seem very fair to me.

The skid plate is well worth 90 bucks, I can only imagine how much that would be if someone had to make one just like it.

what you have to understand is they actually pay someone to pick the part or order the part, package the part and ship the part.its not the actual cost of shipping the part, its shipping and handling.years ago companies use to charge shipping and handling fee's,then came the shipping only ERA,when the were pushing no handling fees.now with ebay and everyone discounting everything, they now have to charge handling fees again.just remember, they do pay someones salary all year long to do this, its not free and it is a business.i really dont like MSC (manchester honda) in CT either but thats busniess.if people dont mind paying full retail than shipping would be free on most items.

Half of them charge allot and it still takes 5 to 10 days to get to you...

Western Honda has free shipping at 100$ and prices right with Service Honda if you call them on it.

I make sure to spend the 100$ where ever I buy stuff because some places do offer the free shipping like Dennis Kirk..

But yes, they are a complete rip off most of the time so use someone else...

Service Honda guys. its that simple. I've never had a problem, they don't gouge on shipping, an they have great prices.

And now they sell Kawasaki and Yamaha parts too!!!!

I never liked DK becuase the shipping really isn't free from what I have seen, every time I start comparing prices towards other companies, their prices are way high. I wish I remembered some examples to back my opinion but don't.

I think it was tire shopping though.

I guess it's a game, like a few said on here, jack up the parts and have cheaper shipping or have true what the part is worth and pay more shipping.

Just so happens both parts from http://prm-atv.com/ seem well worth the $$ and the shipping is darn cheap too, guess that's a rarity now a days.

Last time I ordered from PRM I bought 2 grab bars and 2 skid plates, shipping was about 12$. They even called me to say that the parts I ordered were for different models and wouldn't all fit an 86 350X. I explained that I had a few trikes, it impressed me that they called when they thought I screwed up my order .....

That is a rarity for sure, I'm impressed too. :beer

Also thankful that they make a rear skid plate for 84 R, they are the only ones as far as I know.

They sound like a good company, I just checked out the site. That skid plate looks pretty darn nice, let us know how it works. I wish had the ching to get one, maybe next spring, my stocker is long gone. :( My rear brake disk and sprocket were hating me when I was riding the majestic trails.

My skid plate is OK yet but it will look so much nicer with the aluminum one on and I have this fear that if I wait too long some day I'll get a "Sorry Sir, we had to discontinue them because hardly no one buys them any more" ........so you better not wait too long! :beer

I also got the buffer that they attach for you before it is sent out.
