I have a 1985 225 yamaha dx and I bought a motor with reverse from ebay(serial # inv 002974 ). The motor I bought appears to be a 1986 motor. The u joints on the 1986 motor apper to be a little shorter then the 85 dx non reverse motor. I looked at the parts diagrahm on yamaha and it looks like there might be some different parts on the reverse model where the u joint hooks up to the rear differenteal. Also looks like different drive shaft for the reverse 1986 tri moto verses the 1986 4 moto. I am very confused . What drive shat do I use????? Does anyone have any experience with this swap. Thanks Glenn Oister

It seems you would need to get a different rear differential too. Did you check out the schematics at bikebandit.com?

So are you using a 225DR (trike) motor or a 4-moto 225 (quad) motor? The quad has the wierd center output doesn't it?

I think its a quad motor. The center part that comes out of the motor looks like it has a big sunken nut that holds iton the motor. The trike motor center part is bolted on. The trike drive shaft will not be that much shorter with the quad motor (if thats what it is) . I was wondering if you need a reverse rear end for the reverse to work????????????. Any help would be appriciated

I dont think the rear end would matter to make the reverse work since that inside the trans on the motor
