So I am in love with Honda ATC's. I found 2 in the states and tried to export them to my back yard when I got to the Canadian border where the Canadian border partol told me this is the end of the line for my Honda ATC250R's that I aquired in the U.S.
In 1996 Transport Canada decided that no more could be brought into Canada marking all 3-wheeled ATVs as "Prohibited."
I asked if I could dismantle my trikes and bring them over as parts, and they have no problem with that, am I the only one who finds that relativly stupid?
Has anyone ran into my situation before? Anyone have an answer that I have yet to think of? PLEASE HELP ME!

I imported 2 tri-z's a few years ago. what a pain in the ass. they didnt know the laws about it. i waited there for 2 hours before they finally turned me around. I had to store them south of the border for 3 days, then they finally figured i could bring them across because they werent newer than 15 years old.

Call the Customs agent on it. Know your facts before you show up and you should have no problem unless he is on a power trip and wants to be an A hole.
The Registrar of imported vehicles http://www.riv.ca/ states that No Three wheeled ATV LESS than 15 years old may be imported into Canada. As we all know there hasn't been one produced in the last 20 years so by logic that means that any three wheeler can be imported.
When I brought my 3 -250R's across, the customs agent said the same thing but I stood my ground and asked him to read the information as it was written, Three wheeled ATV's less than 15yrs old are inadmissable. He agreed these were older than 15yrs old and started the paperwork. No issues.
In Ontario it definately helps if you get a title or certificate of origin with the machine, Registration can be done the next day.

I took my 3 wheeler through with no problems. We were going on a hunting trip to a friends land he owns in Canada. They asked what our business was there and we told them and that was it. I would say get someone that lives near the boarder and have them do the same. When they get across then you ship to your door.

I'm from the city that rhymes with fun - Regina, Sask.
So am I reading this right, this is Paragraph 29 of MEMORANDUM D19-12-1 from website: http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cm/d19-12-1/d19-12-1-01-e.html
RIV Program Exemptions
29. Vehicles are exempt from complying with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards at the point of entry into Canada if:
(a) the vehicles are 15 years old or older, or are buses manufactured before January 1, 1971; the importer must be able to demonstrate the age of the vehicle;
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/VAFUS/list/Section9_0.htm
Section 9 - RESTRICTED USE MOTORCYCLES
ALL MANUFACTURERS OF
3 WHEELED ALL TERRAIN
VEHICLES (ATV's) LESS THAN
FIFTEEN YEARS OLD
NONE ARE ADMISSIBLE
Am I reading that right that if the "three wheeled ATV" is less than 15 years old, then I would not be able to import. The ATCs that I bought are 1983 and 1985, making them well older than 15 years. Am I reading that right, that if these trikes were 1992 and newer, then they would not be able to be imported? I sure wish I could ask someone at Transport Canada these questions but there is no one manning the phones during "regular business hours."
Let me know what you guys think. I think I could drive there on Saturday morning and be riding them in my backyard by Saturday night. Thanks in advance.

they might hold them at the border for 3 days. to clear the serial #..If you phone ahead 3 days with the serial # then I think it works and you can go through that day.

If your machines have titles (ownerships) it is easy to bring them across. All you need to present is the title (in the previous owners name) and a bill of sale from that previous owner. Customs Canada will fill out a form 1 (Vehicle import form) and collect the GST on the purchase price. To register it in Ont. all I had to do was take the old title , bill of sale , and Form 1 to the local liscencing office and I got my Ontario ownership. Not sure about Sask.
Machines without titles will be different , worth calling your border crossing and asking about that.

I'm so excited, I can't wait to go riding. Thanks guys for all your suggestions, I stuck my ground and they figured it out. Look out guys in the U.S., I'll be coming for more!
