Just need some honest opinions, 87 250sx plastic lightly scratched from riding in the woods, original everything, no crashes, original tires 75-80%, 6-7 chips in the paint on the tank (chips are all the size of a pencil lead, very small and barely noticeable). What would you expect to pay??

$1200 if evreything works and no smoke

If the original tires still have that much tread on and the shape is relative to that amount, minus the few things you mentioned, it may be worth even more, 12-1400 or so.

:pics:......... can you get some ?

You have a link to it or it's local, in paper, down the road or something ?

I own it already, a local guy made me an offer of $2500, but if I sell, I am afraid I won't run across another 87 that is a low hour piece like this one, my ultimate goal was to restore it (dont need much!) to new condition and keep it, but the search for OEM plastic has left me with a big fat zero. Guy wants this thing today and I just can't decide! I have some pics, but don't know how to post them on this board.

Man thats a nice bit of cash. The question is, what does this trike mean to you and will you just waste the money on bills or some crap. If thats your baby, then dont sell. If your not going to go out and pick up a sweet 350X or the like with the money and spend it on bills "Dont do it" Pretty much an 87 like yours is worth what that guy is offering to alot of people. I cant say sell or not as its not my trike, but if you want to keep it and do a small restore on it thats cool. Takes time to get the right parts but it happens. Another problem is using original parts and ridind that trike. I had a new original 86 200X rear fender for my trike but then realized that I would cry once I broke it because the X is my dailey rider ond will tumble once in a while. If you go all original then shes more a Show piece than a daily rider. Ist time crashed and something breakes you will be sad:cry:
I would be tempted to sell it and buy a real nice 350x that I could ride all the time. Those things rule:beer

I have a brand new fully OEM restored 86 350x, along with some others but I do not ride the ones that are restored. I'm really having trouble bringing myself to selling the sx since it is an 87 and its nice, my ultimate goal is to have all the 87 honda atc's I can find, right now, all I am lacking is a nice 87 ATC125M. But still, I paid $1500 for the 87 sx, he's offering $2500, but whats the liklihood of replacing it? I do not see too many nice original one owner machines these days! Thanks for the opinions

Yeah I have to agree that finding a nice 250SX with the OEM plastic is a deffinate rarity, and 1400-1600 is a very decent price.I would think that you could find a nice orginal replacement sx for 2500.00 and have a little extra for a 6 pack too.My 2 cent's.

Now thats a tough one. Id say it all boils down to how bad you need money. Youre right, it would be tough to replace but if you did find another nice 87 SX, what would you pay for it? Subtract that from what youre selling your SX for and there is your profit. Was it worth it? Tough decision bro, no doubt.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Heck I don't think I've ever seen an '87 SX for sale that wasn't pretty much parted out or a piece of junk. I would definitely NOT sell it. Although the $1000 profit would be nice to have, seeing as it is a goal of yours to collect all '87s, I think you'd regret it.

I too would love to see some pics of it.

Very few of ANY of the 87's are very nice.

If your trying to build up a collection of mint 87's then I wouldn't sell it.

I only see a couple of nice 86/87 250SX's a year and they don't go too cheap.

You could regret it big time..... Unless your broke of course but I don't hink you are....

 2500 ?? That has to be record price for a 250 SX of any year , I have seen two or three really nice 85's go for 1500 or so, 2500 (that's nuts !! but good for you!) is unheard of, send me pic's man, I'll PM you my email address, will gladly post them for you !

I guess what it really boils down to is who wants it the most! I'd imagine a mint 87 bringing even more than that at auction. :naughty:

Thanks for the input guys, I tend to lean towards what ATCT said, I been doing the Ebay thing for a while now, and you just don't see many 87's period. I believe I am going to tell the guy to keep looking! Huffa, I sent 2 pics to you, let me know if you get them. I wish somebody could tell me how to post some pics on this board if its not too complicated.

It's not too hard at all to post pics, you just need to go to a site like www.photobucket.com and host them there.
It'll give you a [img] code that you copy and paste into your post, and your done.

If you dont want to host them on an outside site, just look under the "submit reply" button and youll see "manage attachments". Click that and go to a "browse" button and find the file you want to attach.

Holy cow, I never saw them go that high, ever! I think mine is worth a bit more then I thought now, no where near 2500 or 3000 but more then 750 for sure.

Gene, yours is oh so sweet too, just needs a bit of detailing, like the muffler & hitch painted, rusted bolts cleaned or replaced and what ever other minor stuff that need attention and it will most certainly be at the very top of the list for nice stock 87 SX's!! :beer

I have had this thing for about a year now, and its a clean bike, but needs a few corroded bolts replaced, and just a general cleanup. Those pics were taken before I even washed it, so the original owner took very good care of it. You guys have convinced me not to sell, so I should be able to start on the resto soon. Thanks to everyone who brought me back into reality before I made a dumb move!!
