Sticky Float - Adjust the plastic float?

How do I adjust the float level if the float is 100% plastic? My two brain cells have argued about it long enough........

The 250es carb bowl is getting too full and it drips out the overflow - the carb is clean with a new kit in it. Now what?

Here are a couple nice reads... does'nt help me much tho. Should I just try a different float?

If you've got a sticky float, try replacing the pin that holds it in the carb (those two prongs). Mine was slightly tweaked on my 125 carb and I replaced it with a slightly undersized nail, and it worked just fine.

as jeswinehart said... i would clean the hell out of that pin. them plastic floats can not be adjusted. while your cleaning the pin make sure the float seat isnt sticking as well.

with carefull heat they can be ajusted.... but they break very easy as well

hmmm... the float seemed to operate good when I had it apart. I will break it down and try two things; I will polish the pin out good and switch floats in case that one has a hole in it - how could it be the needle valve? are you talking about the float jet that the rubbber tipped float needle sits in?

I should have a handful of those pivot pins that the float rides on so I will swap it too....

let me know how it could be the needle - I have already had it off once and don't want to keep removing it

i had the same problem on my 200x...i bought a new float which came with a new pin... the pin is what fixed it.

Just general debris and crap. Clean it out real well, then play around with the float while blowing into the fuel line. If it leaks air with the needle closed, you need a new seat.

blow job, eh? ok - will give it a try and see what I can figure out. I have a different carb I can rob the seat from if needed.


I will probably rubber band a clear drain hose to the carb so I can see where the float level is too.

I am sure you put the float on and held the carb sideways and pushed the float in and out like the bowl is filling up and feel for hesitation? That round plastic skirt that sits on the main jet post under the float is on right?

It is almost like I was in DENIAL that there could be any trash in the carb since I just cleaned the carb the other day.....

RRAK, I blew through the fuel hose and could detect a very slight leak at the float jet - kind of perplexed, I broke it down and blew real hard in the the hose and it shot the chunk out.

No problemo senor. That's one of the things that kept going wrong on my little 110 back when I had it, the tank was uber rusty and the needle valve kept leaking.

I highly suggest an inline filter. That'll keep crap from being rubbed in the needle seat and wearing it out.

I removed the tank and repaired the rust in the bottom of it. When I pulled the outlet filter out of the tank it fell apart. When I cleaned out the petcock I got a teaspoon of sawdust looking rust bits. All clean, everything was installed with an inline filter.


The junk that was in there was like a big booger. It was there before I soaked the carb and when I blew all the jets out the first time. I am really surprised It did not come one the first go round. The hard starting condition and the overflow problem were why I went thru the carb tho - I guess I just went thru the motions instead of focusing on the problem.

Also make sure your gas cap vent is clear. That will cause the carb to leak.
