Hello,
I have a yamaha 225DR I think it is a 86 model. Now, I have electric start but have not figured out if it works. If I hooked a car battery should it turn over the engine or are the batteries different?

When I hooked up the battery it did a clicking sound, I found where it was coming from and that was a little black box that seems to have 2 car fuses, but since there is a coating on it I can tell if the fuses are gone. This part is located beside the cilinode.

Please help me out. I also have more questions....... Just one at a time! :D Thanks, Chris

Nevermind the last question, I got that figured out.

I have a new one....

Ok I got a new battery and when I hit the start button, the starter turns (I can hear it) but does not turn over the engine. Could this be that the battery is not charged enough? Or something broken in the engine?

If I hold the button for 4-6 seconds the battery doesn't have enough power to turn over the starter.
Thanks...

It sounds like the battery needs charged. The starter may be missing some parts also. Start with charging the battery. It's the cheapest thing to do. ;)

Ok, But what about for the 6 seconds that it does turn the starter.. why would it not turn over the engine? I just bought the battery. today. and one other thing that I did was take out the starter and hooked the battery straight to it. It turned.

the starter clutch could be fried. there is a one way bearing in the motor gears, so it is not like a car, or a lawn mower.

ok so does that mean I need a new starter? Where can I find the clutch starter and the one way bearing, In the motor?

no, you don't need a new starter, you just need to take off the pull start, then the left side case, then the flywheel. there are some gears that the starter motor turns the 1 way is in 1 of em. also, it could be missing a gear.
