I didnt feel that i should make 2 threads for this so i lumped my 2 questions together.
Question 1: What do you guys who do really nice builds do for bolt coatings? I couldnt stand to get the 200x done with new paint and such and have ugly rusted bolts.
Options-
1.Does auto paint hold up? Id think the wrench would just scratch it up.
2.Powder coat? Seams like alot of work and not sure if the coating would build
up the dimensions to much for the proper wrench.
3.Some sort of zinc or electroplating? I have no experiance with this.
4.Stainless... I know, this is probebly the way i should go, but I dont really want
every bolt stainless
5. Other options???

Question 2: What kind of grips does everyone like? This will be for a thumb throtle so no mx grips. Ive tried the dual compound gels and they just fall apart. Stock seam to hard.

1: auto paint wont hold up it will bust off
2: PC actualy works damn good! dreadhed did some bolts for me and I cant scratch them! very tough, wrenches still fit
3: vintage and 250R fan get bolts doen like this, looks very nice
4: not as strong as factory bolts, but damn if they look good
5: zip ties!

Q #2: I use (since im sponsored) renthal grips, and man, you havnt lived a day in your life untill you use these! very nice, soft yet thin, good feedback and hold well with gloves on!

According to Mike from Vintagemotorsports, bolts and any shiny hardware part (brackets, clips, etc.) are either don in a Zinc w/ clear plating or a Zinc w/ yellow chromate plating (which is used for the gold color parts).

Easiest thing to do is to use stainless. But, admittingly - I have hundreds that were free.

I like the stock shoulder on the OEM bolts, not sure WHAT it costs to zinc plate them. It didn't hold up real well in stock form so I'd hope for a fatter plating if I did a bunch.....

FOR BoLT COATINGS, use POR-15.
DO NOT GET IT IN THE THREADS.

this stuff hardened on the bolt heads on some car lugs and withstands an IMPACT WRENCH.

its called POR-15, get it at a auto-paint store.

POR-15!!!!!!!!!! its like coating your bolts with indestructible paint!

when re-sealing the can...well, if there is ANY on the lid or lip of the can, it will permanently GLUE the lid to the can......you will only open the can 1 more time. by cutting it apart.
