I just bought this bike yesterday thinking it needed carburetor work, but now I'm thinking it may need something else.

It's hard to start, loads up terribly until about 1/2 throttle + in about 3rd-4th gear where it cleans out, the exhaust note changes, and it stops blowing oil all over everything(not just a little drool of oil either.....massive amounts spitting as far as 12+ feet behind me). Slow down for a second or two and it goes right back the same.

The bike's got a fresh top end, new reeds, new air filter, clean carb, Golden Spectro @32:1, a #55 pilot jet like the Clymer manual calls for(seems big to me), NO detectable air pressure or vaccum in the oil plug hole when running, and the clutch side vent tube is not blowing bubbles in soapy water(was thinking crank seal??)

What do ya'll think before I pay $$ I don't have for a leakdown test?

i think you need to find out if it really has a new top end...

It does, and it's losing transmission oil.

sounds like youve stuffed a crank seal. had the same problem.

I've decided to just quit trying to wish the crank/case seal(whichever)back to working order and carry the bike to the doctor....ummm I mean shop. It sucks to spend good money for a bike that has to go under the knife right off the bat, but when it's fixed it'll be fun.

You could save some money by fixing it yourself... These engines are very simple to work on... The only tools you really need is a flywheel puller, a rubber mallet, and a propanr torch.. You might be surprised how simple it really is...

Luckily a local shop owner (with time to fix it as well as the proper tools)is a friend of mine, so it was worth it just to drop it off and let him fix it, and it'll be ready this weekend.

Turns out some idiot had shot about a half tube of RTV into the right crank seal.
