The sprocket hub on my Z seems loose between the splined section and the alloy hub section.
The axle nuts are tight as and the splined section is locked hard to the axle.
The sprocket nuts are tight to the hub.
It seems like the alloy hub is coming loose from the steel Splined section.
Should it be like this.
Can it be fixed (how?)

Are the splines on your axle or hub worn?

No, splines are OK. They are locked up nice and tight on the axle.
It's like the alloy section is becoming unbonded from the steel section:wondering

I never hear of that happining. maybe its time to replace that sprocket hub before it lets go and leaves you stranded out on the trial.

Sounds like a good idea to me Chris.
Also it makes the sprocket (yep thats bolted tight to the hub before anyone asks) float about a little probably putting extra wear on sprockets and chain.

I have a few like that, Time to upgrade to a banshee..;)
there is no way to re-attach the steel splined incert to the alum hub..I usally pull the studs and toss it
the cause of this is running the bike with loose axle nuts...

Yeah , when I bought this trike it only had 1 axle nut and it was that loose you could rock the axle up and down like 6 inches.
I think the guy rode it like that cause the bearings were shot.
Is the Banshee hub a straight swap?

Is the Banshee hub a straight swap?
Yes it is .. the 87 had 4-bolt and the new ones are 6-bolt like the tri-z

The banshee hub actually superseeds the oem tri-z part # for 85-86. Only problem i have with banshee hub is weight!!!!!!! Lots of it!!! Made of cast iron instead of cast aluminum around small steel splined hub. But, what ya gonna do.

Yep, same length and oem part # as banshee. Blaster is direct bolt in as well, but i believe it's 2" shorter overall. Nice option for a drag axle!!

Im running a Lonestar Banshee axle on my Z, its 4" over the stock Z. I like the axle because its adjustable, gives you the option to make it shorter if need be. I really should have shortened the stance in Michigan, I was rubbing EVERY tight trail I went down!
I also have the hub play. Just another thing to add to my ongoing Z build.
EDIT!!!!
If your going to be buying a new axle, go through EBAY! On the Lonestar site my axle is $425 or so, got mine on ebay with papers, AND warrenty for $325.

Hey Mike , I obviously need a new one with mine coming apart But shipping to Australia might kill the cost for me. Any ideas on shipping prices. I'm in Perth Postcode 6112 ?
