Whats an ATC70 worth?? Anyone, Bueller??

Hey guys, what do I have to pay to find a nice ATC70?

Local guy has an 85 (weere there 3 years?) and wants 500$. It's in nice shape, but not perfect. Pull start works and everything else is there aside from a couple of small problems.

Is 500$ the going rate? I checked EBAY and there aren't any to compare.

I saw an excellant one go for 800$ awhile back, are they worth that much?? Weren't they about that when new, LOL - not that that ever matters......

It depends on how much you want it. I would pay $500, but that's me.

Trust me, they are a BLAST!

I just got my 2nd 85, 70 running, so I now I have 2 good running 85 models. Love em.

BTW: the years were 73-74 then 78-85, the 78-81 were 3 down gears, 82-84 4 down, and 85 4 up.

Thanks bud, that helps a bit.... I'd love to find a cheapy, but I don't want to time repairing a crappy one either. Maybe better to spend 500$ or so on a nice OEM?? sounds that way anyhow.......

500 is not bad for an 85, the issues that you need to watch is that pull starters are expensive on eBay, so since it has one you are already ahead because for some reason everyone loses them. Seat pans and gas tanks bring money also since they are both know to rust out. Watch that the frame is not bent under the tank. If the front fender is rubbing the cyl. head it may be bent alittle, it can be straighten. Once you ride a 70 YOU WILL BE ADDICTED!!!! and you will buy another, lol

Yeah, the frame is bent on my older 85, and the front fender is chewed up where the head hit's it.

If you do get it and you decide to get a plastic gas tank, I have a great red one that has had only about 2 tanks of gas through. I want a blue tank, and would sell this one.

Im working on a 85 myself, A guy by me has a few nice ones for 300 bucks each, they dont run, probably needs a carb kit, but complete otherwise. Like a idiot, I decided instead of throwing a chunk of change, I found a POS for a hundred bucks. I had to buy 3 new tires. rear two are 8 inch rims off a 110, had to order a carb kit (installed last night) grips, brake lever, it still needs a seat cover, patch a few cracks in the fenders, tube for the front tire. Im into it for 300 dollars now. I really wished I would have bought a complete one to begin with, but I tend to do things the hard way. Jim

I just drove 450 miles round trip and paid $475.00 for the 1983 ATC 70, and $60 bucks for gas to get it, and then $75 to have a Honda shop go clear through it. It was in near mint condition. Original tires are over 80% , Few small paint scratches, and the seat was recovered by the person I bought it from, and turned out real good. No bent frame, plastic and decals look GREAT and runs quite fast.

I was about to try and post some pictures of it, but my teenaged daughters think this computer is theirs and deleted them. :wondering

To me, mechanically sound and complete is much more important than cosmetically nice. The frame and pull starter are big ticket items. You can pretty much buy new maier fenders for what a decent pull starter may run you. Luckily, 70s are rather plentiful and are wide open to customizing. Engine selection runs all the way from the stock 70 engine, to lifan replacements up to approx 150ccs and have gone as far as having modified 200x and 250r engines installed. A complet running atc70 should be around $500 dollars. Complete running 73 and 74 atc70s' usually fetch a little more. If you can get a cheaper one, even better. I've seen people buy 70 frames with no fenders or engine knowing that later they would be buying new parts for that anyway and get really amazing deals. Most parts for the 70s are available either through honda or aftermarket suppliers. The biggest factor is really what you plan on doing with the trike. If you just plan on riding it the way it is, than the more complete the better. If you plan on modifying it, then just find what you need and go from there. You can really wrap some money up into one if you try. And you haven't even entered into the world of suspension 70s!!!!! Parts for the 73 and 74 model atc70s are a bit harder to find. The toughest parts being the fuel tank which is 73 and 74 only and each year being a different color and the cover for the rear of the frame. A board member on here has reproduced the 73 and 74 fenders in their proper colors in fiberglass which has been a major help in ressurecting those early 70s. Whatver way you decide to go, have a blast. People have been known to race atc70s. They don't need alot of room, and they go just fast enough to be a blast. You can even tail gate with atc70s. Once you get one, You'll have several. I have 3 myself and only one has a stock frame, the other 2 being suspension 70s.
