View Full Version : Trading my Tecate 3 for a 250r? What's worth more?

I just picked this T3 up from Lomax from the boards. Got it running pretty nice, thing is pretty reliable and outruns my 400ex with ease.

The only complaint I have about it is this - the rarity of it. Finding parts, in particular. I'm aware it's cool to have something different, but that's not what I'm looking for right now.

I just want a fast 2 stroke. I know there are mods out there for this, but there's WAY more aftermarket support for the 250r. I think that would suit me a little better.

Could I trade this thing for a 250r trike or quad in similar condition? Is this worth more than a similar condition 250r trike? Less? I really don't know, and would like to know what to expect.

The only issues this thing has is a small leak from the shifter, and needs a rear master cylinder rebuild. Also the gas tank is faded.

T3's are worth more.

nah i would say here anyhow your tecate would be equal value to a air cooled 250r. A liquid would be worth more than a tecate. But if you can find someone to trade straight across for either then your doing good! Just my opinion!

It all depends I what you think your bike is worth, and what they think their bike is worth.Get someone wanting a T-3 bad enough they trade almost anything.

I traded a decent 85 250r with that "rare" Shelveys Performance motor for an85 Tri-Z.CAll me crazy. But I wanted another Tri-Z.I didnt have an extra $$$ to buy one.Plus I knew the guy I was trading it too.I feel he made out better. But I dont mind.I am very Happy with the bike I got in trade.

So it really comes down to you and the possible trader.

I would keep your t3 over an air R. If you could find somone to trade for an 85-86 R then by all means do it. I can't see too many takers on that trade though.

Well if you're looking for a fast 2stroke, you have one. It sounds like the "issues" list is relatively small as well. So keep what you have and enjoy it. With proper tuning, these are potent bikes that will run with any 2 stroke 250 trike. No matter what you buy, you're going to have to do work. You have a great starting point to work with. Be patient and parts do pop up. Even here on the boards, in the classifieds.
