84R left side casing removal

I have to remove the engine to do so, because of frame (front down tube) interference and shift shaft.

OH WELL, now I can detail it up nice.

No wonder you don't see many with custom polished side cases :lol:

I don't think the 5/6's are that way, are they ? Although everything is on opposite sides I think?

While I'm on engine removal (I did it already) subject, which side have you guys removed motor from? I moved mine back, tilted it sideways/sort of diagonal and removed it from L side, is that the easiest ?

I cant remember now but I believe once unbolted the motor almost fell outta the 81R I have. But I noticed my fathers 84 it seems the motor is down in the frame a little.

Yes, something must be different, in no way did mine almost fall out, took a few different tries till I succeeded and of course the manual says to simply just "remove the engine" like it's a piece of cake.

I'll post installation pic's on here so it will help others + me. Surely years down the road, if I do have to remove/install again, I sure won't remember how I did it.

It only comes out from the right side I've done it a million times with these infact I'm going to install my 300r motor today.

No it doesn't, it comes out on the L too, I guess you didn't read what I said in 1st post ?

Do you do yours the same tecnique as me, except on R side ?

I'm going to get this motor install/remove down to a science, I certainly don't want to practice it on a freshly repainted frame (that's next year) so like said before, will post pic's when I feel I found the easiest way.

Yes same way only from the Right side I was never able to get it out from the left side without scratching the frame and motor :wondering

i wrap teh frame is that styrofoam looking paper when installing motors.

I use a few layers of 2 inch masking tape on trouble areas but what I'm saying is it's damn near impossible to get the 83-84 motors out from the left side without damaging something I don't know how he did it.

YES! Good idea DeePa! That or that black rubber foamish copper pipe insulating tubing that is not costly.

Heck :D , I can borrow that from some of my pipes in my basement!

What's odd is the fact that Honda tells you to remove the shock resivoir, there is no reason to do that UNLESS you are removing the engine from the L side and even then you don't have to remove it, just loosen clamps and turn it counterclock wise, out of the way.

We shall see though, I'll try it from R and L since frame is not painted and has nicks, see which way I like more.

I just put mine in from the L :lol:

I was going to try the R too, like I said, but the darn angle is so critical on L side it would have been a pain to take it out again.

If you angle it JUST RIGHT, it will go in L side with out too much trouble but I'd have to agree with you guys, the R side probably is easier.

Wish I had a video of me installing it just to show how it's done. It's actually hard to explain how it's done and I forget myself right after I do it! :rolleyes:
