The plastic tank is on the white one. here is the best pic I have now. It is a Clarke tank. I'd recomend spending the extra $$$ on a IMS.

i have both I.M.S. and clarke tanks and like them both. if more fuel is a concern go with the larger 3 gal I.M.S. the carke tank is the stock 2.2 gal.
both tanks are excelent with the clarke having a shinier finnish

the clarke runs about 160.00 and you can get it in about 10 differant colors. yes the scoops screw in just like factory
So both tanks fit well, just like the stock one? How about petcocks?

I had trouble putting my Clarke on, in my opinion it was a crappy fit. I think a few more people on the site agree with me also. I belive stock, clarke, IMS, are all 3 gallon. I also think the IMS has metal brackets for the front mouting where the Clark just has cut outs in the plastic for the rubbers to fit into. Which might also add to why it doesn't fit the best, but the Clarke doesn't have any bracketry that could break off or bend in a crash. Now that the Clarke is on it looks fine, but getting it on was hard, I almost thought I was going to have to send it back, it was one of those deals where you get all the bolts started first and then tighten them. Someone on the site said they had to drill out the petcock hole so the fuel filter would fit into the tank, and I can remember doing somthing similar with my Clarke.

like i said i own all three...stock/clarke 2.0 gal I.M.S. 3. gal. also the I.M.S. dose not have metal tank mounts they are similar to clarke. both tanks fit tight and there is a reason, so they don't fit to lose plastic will conform and after being on your trike will come on and off easier

Regardless of which tank you choose, since the tanks are a thermoplastic material is is important that you coat them with the Kreem Kote or something thermoplastic so that the fuel does not cause yellowing. It will happen, just give it time. In addition, the tanks will also cause the decals to bubble because of "breathing". A double coat of Kreem is always a good idea, as long as none is pooled anywhere.

85 350X Owners manual states:
Fuel tank 9.7 liter (2.56 US gal)
Fuel reserve capacity 1.7 ltere (0.45 US gal)
Looks like the stock metal tank is a little over 2 gal to reserve.

I currently own 2 plastic tanks. I don't know what makes they are but they serve the purpose. One of the tanks is actually better than the other one. I saved it from being burned when someone ( from this site )
couldn't get it to stop leaking. This tank really is the better of the 2 I have. The plastic is pretty thick and it has been painted and the paint is holding up better than expected. Haspin will be the first real test for this tank since I got it. I might even send it home with the original owner.
While I am prefer a metal tank the Plastic ones are not that bad. As I can find good metal tanks the Plastic ones will be cleaned and put on my "personal shelf". Once on that shelf item don't get sold. They are my spare parts. lol
