hey puppy you ever do one of these up? what do you think?http://www.powroll.com/P_HONDA_ATC200X.htm
I put the middle of the road WEBCAM and HC piston 1mm over in my buds 85. It has ALLOT more power with no lid and a Cobra exhaust (unfortunately there isn't much out there...).
You've bought it, I'm not gonna try and steer you away. Your a YAMAHA guy and I have lots of respect for your builds. I just do not like those 85's. I owned it, rode it and it's just a bit above a 250SX in terms of handling, better suspension - YES!!
I am however a huge fan of the 86/87 200X and I think when most guys get a chance to ride one, they won't turn back - I won't!! That may be partially due to all the things that got improved from 85 to 86 that I love and all the headaches that the 85 caused me.
Not to mention that my 86 in stock form takes that built 85.... Not talking drag here, just overall trail racing.

well it is what it is.. like you say , But Im gonna save this one , theres ton's of parts for these models and it will make a fine trail rider..Im gonna dig in tomorrow.. LOL.. I'm still trying to figure out the title to this thread? :wondering
I admitted to Mike on the phone once he told me the z was running that I was starting to miss it. But I miss that old 250SX more than anything. That was one of the most dependable trikes I've ever owned.
If you can free up that motor are you gonna go all out on this? These little bikes can turn into moneypits right quick (speaking from experience) just as quick as one of those Z's.
I rode jason's 200x around all day and loved it! it hauled even with my big ass on it. :TrikesOwn
One positive note is that right now the X aprts are selling on ebay dirt cheap! nows a good time for hourding! ;)

Im gonna keep it stock for now if the motor free's up ..as said before it appears to have a new top end on it ..but if its the bottom end then yea the motor will get some treatment..
I just got off the phone with mik6 and he thinks he has fenders, rims, forks for it..bruce has a box of misc stuff,3 sets of forks, few front rims with NOS tires..prowedge2's on x rims,,,, 200x man has a present for me this weekend.. Are most people riding sport trikes? If so then maybe I will bum a ride off Bruce, my 200e is just too heavy. Really I am tempted to check out that '82 250r that is out that way, I just don't have the cash now (I should really sell the 200e). If there are a couple of utility trikes out then I can probably talk my dad into swapping vehicles for the day.

You are right about that, but I don't think the boarded crossing would have gone very well! They wanted reciepts of what I bought! They asked where I got the information from and I told them www.3wheelerworld.com. I thought they where going to go online and check things out! (new members?) All they ended up doing was going threw my van, about a 10 min. delay.
If you want a better rear suspenion, put the 350x mono in. If we get together for a ride I'll bring my '84 x up so you can check it out. ;)

the reason it was locked up was the bolt for the cam gear fell out and got caught..good news brand new piston..and the rod is tight ...
dirtface
01-01-2008, 07:24 PM
A new top end gasket set and a little lock tight and your good to go. I have definately seen them alot worse than that. Looks like you might have lucked out.:beer
Bryan Raffa
01-01-2008, 07:25 PM
so heres the list to make it right..
gasket set
crank bearings
rockers
head
cam
new rings
valves
shift shaft
cam chain case thingy. and cover
cylinder stock or .25bore,, to have bored out to this piston and new rings
front sprocket cover
think someone did a quick hone job with a new piston..there still grooves in the cylinder.and the hatch marks are still there.
cam journals are shot
first things first,, get a flywheel puller!
Dirtcrasher
01-01-2008, 08:00 PM
Raffa, is that the style flywheel that just needs a threaded bolt to come out with?? (I think it is). Anyhow, the rear axle threads on lots of machines are that same thread. I have allot of big Toyota bolts that I use but years ago I used an SX axle one time......
Bryan Raffa
01-01-2008, 08:10 PM

Something to look for...
Since you have the motor out already.. check to see if there's an x stamped on the serial numbers down near the shift shaft. I'm always intrested to see if the recalled kicker gears were replaced on 200x's back in the day at dealerships.
Bryan Raffa
01-01-2008, 10:38 PM
I will do that.. and if not what can I do..are they alv....
also the frame was cracked in half at one time under the motor and welded together ,,looks shaity..lucky bruce has 2-3 piled up..
chris200x
01-01-2008, 10:44 PM
Well I'm not saying that its bad.. it's just neat to know how many of these were actually recalled and fixed properly. and will also give you peace of mind.
I had a kicker kit installed in that 200x motor i had rebuilt.. I think howdy had a few kits back then. not sure if they're still available tho..
I like those little 200x's they're fun little rides! I think you can still get DG krome exhausts for them too. Quite spendy... but nice and throaty!

raffa check out my 200x/cr80 brake conversion thread in the madscientist section. i used a cr80 front caliper on the back of my 85 chris200x road. used a rear kx80 caliper for the front.
i mite have the head and rocker stuff. you can get the rocker rewelded and ground back down for $75+ get the stock cam welded and ground into a biult one buy megacycle. there cams are a better then Webcams better lift anbd stuff.

well if you decide let me know rings are shot in my motor so my muffler is filled with oil and just looks like .... lol so im gonna need something to put back when i build it.ty in advance. just think what you might have to have out of it if you dont keep it.not alot of green to play with here.
Bryan Raffa
01-02-2008, 09:04 AM
heres the plan with the squatter..
new crank bearings
new cam chain
new cam
new rings
fresh bore
new valves..poss.oversized
swap the frame, forks and tripples out with a nice set
maybe a little port work
new chain
axle bearings & seals
swingarm bearings
air filter
bigger carb
cheep plastic and a seat..
rear tires.. Pro wedges
Sandblast & paint
what bigger carb bolts on these bikes?
chris200x
01-02-2008, 10:28 AM
Bryan. I believe alot of guys put the Honda XR200 carb on their 200x's it's a few mm bigger I believe. They also use the 6 speed tranny but I dont know what's all involved with that.
Finally something I can help YOU out with... I'll be expaction plenty of pm's from you when you start rebuilding! (LMAO.. private joke hehe)
If your gonna sink alot of money into this plan on keeping it. the resale value on these blow.

ran out of paint .. gonna hold off till the machine work is done.. Jug and cylinder will get bead blasted.. witch washers should I run on the cover?.. the copper or the stainless?.. I'm running a 200 valve cover and ground the lip off the inside of the decompression shaft and rounded the outside to give it a cleaner appearance..
You need to run the copper for the 4 main ones.
I would use new ones if it where me.

Pulled apart 2 seats and got good foam and a good Pan..ready to go,,
also last night was working on changeing the rear brake mount so that a front caliper will bolt right up..the front hole needs to be lower and the rear needs to be higher to rotate the caliper forward...as I will need the neigbors welder..and Have been thinkin of getting another swinger from bruce to make this one a +2..wile I got the welding going on..Pic's later today

cooler placement.. here's my options.. eather way its mounted the tabs will be cut off or bent...the second picture looks like it might be a better option as I could just weld a stud to the frame and use the top mount on the cooler..but I also like it on it's side tucked up in ,,out of harms way and the lines almost have a factory bend look to them.. I dont forsee it being mounted up by the tank like on the 350x as that would be ideal,,But it would almost have to be laying flat and tucked up in TIGHT to clear the muffler and the tripples ..even tucked up in the as far as it would go the tripples comes close..
last picture's is a x I came across with it in the same area..
I was going to put mine on the tank on the inside of the scoop area.
I would try to mount it near the front some how.
It would be to you benifit to make a fiberglass scoop to go over it to get the full effect. This way mite not be good in the winter but excellent in the summer. If you did make a scoop for it make it removable for the winter.
Bryan Raffa
01-21-2008, 12:13 PM
what do you think about drilling a series of holes in the rear fender to allow air to pass through..down in the dimple of the fender..the oil lines will only be about a foot long in this area..
Bryan Raffa
01-21-2008, 12:20 PM
e dog Im not looking for Maximum coolness..like say mounting it on top of my helmet with some Quick disconnect lines..LOL
lets just say helping or improveing the oil temp..even if I just ran a strait line with no cooler up and around the back, It would get it away from the motor and cool it some..ya know

I remember seeing a pic of a member here who had one of these coolers mounted up and underneath the headlight on a 250sx. between the front fender and HL. Not exactly sure how they went about doing this.. but I think that would be an ideal spot for mounting.
So how does the oil circluate through this system. There is no pump or anything like that. Just the pressure in the motor? I'm not too familiar with these setups so I just thought I'd ask. Do you still run the same amount of oil with this setup or are you supposed to run more?

oil pump chris.. there just is not enough room up there with the X head light and between the 350x steel lines ..remeber the X has that big metal frame behind there for the light..also I want lights...
You have to run more oil.. to compensate for the lines and cooler..once done I will fill the lines and cooler and dump it into a ratio rite .. this will tell me how mutch more to add.. it will be higher on the stick..

The motor has a oil pump.
There are chanels on the inside of the case from the oil pump for a oil cooler.

Is that your 350X?
Yes... my daily rider / "banned and nameless" loaner.
Raffa... I'm sure where ever you place it, it'll look nice. Was just thinking if you still had your temp gun, you could use some flex lines and mount it temperarly in a couple different places and see what your best cooling option would be. I'm just afraid if you mount it sideways in the back you're not going to get air flow through it and really just be robbing oil pressure and not cooling it. Edog does have a good idea of routing some air scoops to direct air to it.
Yes... it's my "Go-Go" 350X (See below)

QUOTE]
its a oil radaitor... the radiate heat out....yes more air the better= more cooling, even if its 10deg.. it better than stock..if you pull the oil away from the heat source it's gonna cool.. the right side is not a option..and up under the tank on the left side will be worse place yet..as it needs to be right up in there tight...and tipped way forward.. the lines will be the shortest in my location with 14" lines..so robbing oil pressure is not a problem:idea:

Is the cam journal ok to glass bead like that?
Bryan Raffa
02-09-2008, 10:32 AM
Is the cam journal ok to glass bead like that?
very lightly..yes ..glass bead blast is the finest grade I think for blasting..you get the smoothest Finnish there is..inside stuff like that I hold the gun way back to further the pattern and helps to not distort the metal & gasket surfaces..basicly cleans them real nice and smooths them better..that head was perfict..I still am going with the oversizes valves and will probley ship it right to powroll to install everything.maybe mill a touch off it. the steel valve seat in the head are pitted and not shure if them are replaceable..but if it is beyond repair for the bigger valves..then it would already be at powroll for a core charge.and if thats the case they will do the port work also
this is what has me worried right now..and just to show you how lightly i hit that area,,you can still see the line from the cam;)
You got some serious pitting going on.Do you have another one?
Louis Mielke
02-09-2008, 12:44 PM
Raffa, I don't think Powroll does head work anymore. I'm pretty sure they only stroke cranks and supply parts.
I would assume you'll go with the double bearing type cam so the shape of the journals is negligible. I'm gonna go with web or megacycle, honestly I'm leaning towards megacycle at this point.
The pitting doesn't matter. A good machinist can clean that up, install new, (bigger for the intake) valve seats.

Bryan- is that same tank universal for the ATC200 - 185S and 200S as well? I always thought they looked kinda funny on the hard tails - but the X is supposed to have a "styled" tank. Can't wait to see it on the machine. Looking really good for a squatter.
tim this one is for a 200x..not the universal.. they also had the desert tank it was really tall and white.. this will match the plastic,Dont have to worrie about denting it with my long legs..I was going to send the steel tank to syko to have turned into a shorttrack tank.. but theres NO rust in it in or out.. so I will sell it to someone for there build..Plus it has the look I want!:naughty:

Motor Department..
on the list..
Web cam-
oversizes stainless intake
stainless exhaust valve
Valve spring kit with TT retainers
mega cycles-
Needel Brng. billet cam holder
adj, cam sprocket
Powroll- 6mm stroker crank
I want to use a 10:25-1 wiseco piston and a mid cam from Web Cam..as I dont want to go full blown race motor just yet.. so theres room for improvement.. MY Question is.. Web Cam has two mid cams one a .375 and one a .395 whats the diffrance and witch one would be better? I wanna be able to ride that edge of a reliable and race bike..The 395 says it will take advantage of the bigger valve..so Im leaning twards that.. I will also be going with a brand new mikuni 30mm carb..
also what do you guys think of running a 6mm stroker with a 10:25 piston..
Running the stroker will make it faster for awhile.I would just stay with the stock
crank.

30% more faster! and I will end up paying close to the same price too have my stock one rebuilt...and I have many bikes so this wont be ridden every day.
Well ruffa...I think you answered your own?lol

first let me say dont ever pull out your swinger bolt with nothing under the bike! your tail light will suffer the same as mine!
second them chain adjusters for the 200X on ebay are close but not right... the hole in the center needs too be made bigger, As the bolt and the funny spacer will not fit,,I used a dremel with a porting tip too hog it out..
third who had one of these tanks? where does the strap go? on the bottom, On them two bolts? theres a lot of play there and it really dont do anything.. Or on the back and attach too the pins?
chris200x do you see your present you gave me...;) :)

Bryan Raffa

Why didn't you go with metal 200X tank?
for one im rough on metal tanks with my long legs.. it would have been dented in no time..plus the tank I have has no rust inside and would be nice for someones project,,, its red and will match the plastic better..and theres no shrouds.. like I was going too have the metal tank turned into..ST tank

went too bleed the brakes and the rezzie bolt broke, Swaped that out with a CR master.Mutch better anyways...
Ditching the stock grab bar for a DG (spair for when I roll it down some un godly hill climb)
and the last time you will see it like this ..because I happly awaiting the +3dico and red rear shock..:)
got the foot peg strait, front brakes bled and the motor mounts on too.. what can I say its a nice day out!!:naughty:

thew the seat and mounts on too see how bad the gap between the tank and seat was going to be ..it was bad.. so I cut out the seat pan too allow for the rear tank strap and mount .Heated up the pan and bent it down ..its about a 3/4 gap now.. and I will wait till I can get fenders to heat and bend the pan down any more.. I'll get it too about a 1/4 too 3/8 off the tank..
I think that one of my biggest pet peeve's about honda's the dam seat pan allways sticks up and looks like crap..IMO
chris200x
03-23-2008, 10:05 PM
Lookin good Raffaman.. 200x's seem to be the worse with the seat pulling back like that. The vinyl pulls the top of the seat back after a while. A metal seat pan would prolly be the only cure.
So now Cody's chest protector is missing a shoulder pad thingy huh? LOL

heck no I fixed that with another set..I found,, and just riveted the axo arm guards to the acerbis chest guard.. the straps were broke on the one I used hahah.

So is that new swingarm bent?
Bryan Raffa
03-31-2008, 09:46 PM
good question edog.
as you can see in the first pic my counter top is level left too right..
second and third are the front and back rails, from just behind the shock mount point the rails bend up equaly 1/8
now my counter top was not level the other way, so I stuck a koolaid packet under it untill the rear was level.. and then moved the torpedo too the front.. and it's with in the lines.. so if it was bent I dont think both sides would be the same..then again what do we have too compare too?
the paint on it is chit 2-3 layers the last one being light and razor bladed around the stickers each time ..I gonna have some bigger, longer Dico stickers made and bead blast this baby down too raw metal again with the same color Red thats on the stocker arm now..also blasting down bruces +3 westcoast

got it on the bike and loveing the dico +3 ..gave it a great stance and nice hight..and feel's a little better sitting on it ..:TrikesOwn
The reason i asked is i was watching it.The only reason i didn't buy it was because it looked bent. Now that you have given me a better pic of the side. This confirms that it is indeed bent.

and what information do you have that will confirm they were all strait?
also does your information say they had mounts for a 200x OEM skid plate.. because mine is totally diffrent. the mount holes are 7 1/4 long and 3 1/2 wide center to center..
and this add..is another another style..
maybe this guy can shed some light on the skid plate? but he dont have one mounted..:(
also I think your red block is off some look at my level..
Bryan Raffa

and because I'm impatient,, I threw the motor in too see what its gonna look like..somewhat:twisted:
I don't have any info confirming that they were all strait.I really don't think that they would build the swing arm that way.
That's baskets old 200X.

The only thing i don't like about the Powerroll 200X is that the scoops and
headlight are gone. They are critical parts to keep the motor cool. You would
think with all the motor work you would try to keep it as cool as you can.A oil
cooler would be great to.

The scoops I understand but the headlight would be blocking air, with a mesh number plate its letting air through and to your engine.

Lets face it...a vented number plate looks cool.It really doesn't do much on the 200X.Look at the bottom of the 200X headlight. It directs air towards the front of the tank and then directs it down to the cylinder head.

mine's not stock edog..My guess is you have never seen how mutch room is under a clark tank compared to a stock one ..I never saw how the front fender was designed to let air through with no vent holes in the back of it and that big ol rubber mud flap..blocking the rest .. I will be running a 250R front fender .. witch is smaller and narrower in the back.. that where my air will come from.....I really think that was a sales pitch and just something they threw in there too fill up the brochure.

todays little task...
200xman gave me this 200x pro tec skid plate the last time he was over ..this was actually the very first thing I got for the project, I thought I would honor that and make it work with the Dico..I think it turned out sweet..:p

got a idea..tryed it on a junk set of fenders...and Im postive that I will do this to a brand new set of fenders.. not the way I did these.. this is just getting a rough feel for how I want it..so I did not care too mutch about appearance... the marker is where I will cut out simular too a CR shroud or 250R..I need to study some shroud pictures.
