View Full Version : a trike decals library--what do YOU think?

 As I was searching in vain for decals for an '85 Tecate, I came up with a thought. While it is somewhat easy to find Honda, and even Tri-Z decals, it's near impossible to find proper OEM size decals for many trikes out there, including the '85 Tecate.

So, I was wondering if people out there might be interested in starting a library of decal scans. They'd need to be at a high enough DPI rate that a someone reproducing them could make a good set. But, I know a bunch of people out there were fortunate enough at some point in time to get a set before the stock dried up, so they have many in which we could scan.

This way, if we needed decals for a particular model, we could simply go to the 3WW decal library, and find what we need and then send it to Harlan or whomever else might be able to reproduce them. I say this, because at the moment, I have NO idea what I'm going to do once I get to that stage of my restoration.

Personally, I think it would be great if we made this happen. What do you think? I'd honestly even be willing to buy a good scanner and scan people's decals in for them to make this happen. No kidding.....:)

Another thing that would work is if people took high resolution photos of decals that are in really good condition. As long as the resolution is high, the should be able to be photoshopped for production.

I like your idea ATCT....... a while back I had contacted Harlan asking if he had some factory sty;e decals for one of my early model 110's........ he did not have that year or anything for reference so I was out of luck. Your "library" would have come in handy. For instance, i have an 85 KLT250, bone stock, perfect condition.... every decal in place..... this would be a perfect candidate to scan for future reference for others needing these decals. Unfortunately, none of my other machines would be of help, lol. :beer

What type of files will they be? PDFs might be a good option for high resolution and low distortion. I'm no expert, so someone else might know better. I fully support your idea. While I don't have any trike decals, I have a set of 500R wing decals for an 89 CR500R and one for an 89 CR250R. The other side has been discoed, so I would need a modified scan of the 500R decal if I wanted a pair for a 250R. I also have what is believed to be the last unused set of Ceet Mojave graphics in the world. I searched high and low for years and finally found two pairs for sale, one of which had already sold by the time I contacted the seller. Ceet will make them, but only if you order 30 sets at a time. I'm going to use copies for my KXF326 quad, and the originals will never be used. I hope others will offer to help, but honestly, I don't think many will because most people are just too damned stingy when it comes to this. The multiple requests for different types of number plates by Aussie are a perfect example. I'd be willing to send you mine just so you have them, but I'm 7000 miles away right now.

You know.. this is actually a good idea. Damned if I didn't think of it first! All those decal guys really need is a big clear pic I believe.
