Hey

so with a dirt bike gas tank balancing on the air box i was able to get my trike running!!:beer

but right after i turned it off, it was only running for a short time. i checked the spark plug, it was pretty black not really wet thou. so i have all stock jets, stock muffler, uni air filter.

but i wonder if i counted the pilot screw wrong. how do you guys count? since its a flat head i normally spin it 180 degrees so i see the other side of the flat head then count that as one half. the book says to have it at 2 and 1/4th for all 200x after 83.

any tips would be helpful. im having carb issues with my big red too so i need to get some experience tuning.

screw it in till it's lightly seated...Do NOT over tighten it .. there is a o ring in there that you can mess up.. just screw it it slowly till it get seated then count your turns out ..

I am having a problem with my x too and I think its the pilot screw. The bottom end runs rough and wont idle but top end seems fine. When I put the choke on, it idles and runs like a raped ape. Is this a pilot screw problem.

BTW Im glad to see you got the kicker gears and that they work good. My kicker keeps letting loose so I have to tear apart 2 engines to put another return mechanism in it :(

have any of you guys tryed getting a new needle, washer and O ring? sound like they have been overtightend...inspect the air needle and O ring..dont lose the tiny washer... not mutch to them carbs other than being dirty or varnshed up ..in a passage..

Take the carb apart and clean the slow jet.

As for the original poster listen to Raffa if the O-ring is bad or the tip is damaged you'll never get the mixture right.

Another thing, let the engine warm up good before setting the mixture. Try the recommended setting and adjust the idle accordingly

Hey danold-

yeah i only had to install the gears twice! but i dont know how anyone could not line them up right! i am suprized i broke my last pair! yours seem to be taking a beating with no problem. the last guy who owned this must have had them way off.

but ok no one has answered the question, im lucky and found a spot where mine will idle and run strong, but i know i could have it dialed in better.

how do you guys count the turns. my o-ring is fine, just replaced it, i never crush the washer when tighting the screw. but the book says 2 1/4 turns out. or 510 degrees out.

wait this will help me, i need to know if you turn it in to lean it out or if that riches up the mix. if i know what direction does what i can always do a plug chop test and see what it reads at.

tightening the screw is richer and loosening it is leaner
