Went to change the oil in the R today and it came out looking like cream. Why the hell does it do that? I've seen it kind of gray before but never this color. I've never seen what coolant in the bottom end looks like but I would assume it wouldn't look quite like this. Oil and water wouldn't mix this clean would it? Besides it never seems to run low on coolant anyway. :wondering

Yea that is a sign of coolant not good buddy.. if it's not running low then it's getting it when you wash the bike down maybe?

Yep, cream is what you get when water or coolant gets in the oil. Drain it, ride it for 10 minutes and see if it does it again. If it does, you have a coolant leak. If it doesn't, you got it in there from an outside source.

looks like water to me, used to get that all the time when I'd sink the beartracker. go in any water lately?

I never ride in water. I don't see how it could get in there from being washed and I don't see how coolant could be the cause when it's never low. It seems like it would take a good amount to change it to that color so it would be low.

A Spoonfull Of Water/antifreeze Will Do That,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Got Seal?

I had that happen to my 85R and it turned out to be the mechanical seal in the water pump. It's an easy fix and they make a kit for it.

I replaced the water pump seal a couple years ago. I think I have another one though.

I know you can replace the stator side crank seal without splitting the cases (not that it would help me here) but what about the other side? You gotta split it to git it?

Yes, have to split the cases, and its oil on both sides, so that cant be it.

The water pump seal is a trick to change, it has to be pressed in nice and straight. The bearing might be worn out, there isnt much support on the pump shaft.

Yes, oil and water will mix like that. Wipe out bearings too.

How long has it been since its last oilchange?

How long has it been since its last oilchange?

Couple months.

The water pump seal was done two years ago. Everything was replaced at that time (bearing and all). I think I have everything I need to do it again except one piece and the gasket. I'm not going to risk opening it up tomorrow (leaving for the trike rally Thursday). It'll have to wait until I get back. If it's leaking coolant in there it's got to be a tiny amount so one more weekend of riding this way shouldn't hurt anything.

Before you take anything appart look to make sure your crankcase vent line is still connected or intact.

More frequent oil changes wouldnt hurt either

I change it every two or three weekends of riding. I just haven't been riding much. There's probably three weekends on this oil.

Water in your oil for sure.

Yea I had that when I first got the Tecate running way back. It was the Water pump bearing and seal. Milky oil syndrome usually means a motor job.
Probably nothing too serious but it could be.

I have a Tri-z and my oil was like that when my water pump seal went south. I say check that if thats wut happens after riding. Before you wash it and don't go through water.
P.S. Riding in water ruins bearings water creeps into everything thats submerged even sealed bearings.:)
