250r Shock Options

Anybody know what rear shock options I have for an 86 rear 250R shock? Will TRX fit? What mods are needed? I want a good shock - like Elka or Fox or something like that - but I want to know what is compatible as far as other models go as ATC250R supplies are pretty limited in the aftermarket side.

Let me have what info you have.

No guesses here please - I need definitive answers.!

the upper and lower bolt holes might be different but thats easy to fix but other then that yes a aftermarket quad shock will work nice.

we used to do this the other way around....85-86 atc shocks on the back of custom 250x frames

Tim a 450r shock will be way to short. You can use a TRX shock from a 86-87. The 88-89 trx shock has a bigger bolt that goes through the bottom shock mount & linkage. I have made different spacers to run the 88-89 shocks on the older bikes. You will need to use the bigger 88-89 lower linkage/shock bolt, then have bigger bushings made for the steel lingage. The linkage seals are also different sizes from 86-87 trx/atc to 88-89 trx. I have argueed at the parts counter about the seals before. They ordered the wrong parts on me twice. I had to bring the 2 different size bolts In as proof before they would return my money. If you don't understand what I'm talking about PM me or give me a call. 1-517-206-7635.
