Is a 175 elsinore worth fixing? It got run without oil in the gas for a short time and ruined the rings, piston is iffy. I dont want to ask this on a elsinore site, because you'll get a biased opinion there. thanks jim

i think they are cool bikes, might be worth fixing if the rest of it is in good shape, post some pics if u can.

I have 2 bikes('86 CR250 and '87 YZ490) that were run on straight gas for a short time and both have bottom end(crank bearings/bottom rod bearing) issues in addition to top end problems.
I say tear it down and inspect bottom rod/crank play so you'll know how much you're gonna have to spend to get it straight.

This is a friend from work. He's never worked on a bike before. He didnt even know the difference between a 2 or 4 stroke. he got gas to the carb. but didnt realize the throttle sticks. He told me he squirt some starting fluid in it, and it fired up! At full throttle. Then to find out the kill switch didnt work. So there he sat with the bike screaming at full throttle. and no way to stop it. That was until he started seeing sparks coming out of the exhaust. (probably the rings). Well it stopped and no has no compression. rings came out in pieces. Jim

I think im just going to put the cylinder back on it and button the whole thing back up. He paid 50 bucks for it. I think hes just going to put it on craigslist and see if he can make a few bucks off of it, if not try to at least get his 50 out of it. Too bad I dont know more about these things. I'd consider picking it up myself, but I really dont need more junk in the yard. jim

I'd do just the opposite, ASK on that site and they could steer you in the right direction for parts, I'm sure you can find what ever you need.
Which one is it here and I forgot that they made a all red one (cool!!), I think they are nice basic machines and so simple that it would last a long time once fixed.
