Last night a buddy of mine was showing me the value of his old 1979 CR125 - and I thought - wow these vintage bikes are worth money - see here for what it is worth:
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38-5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0028&d=1500007785&y=1979&ml=H&gc=AM>c=MC
then we started to look up old trikes - I saw last night that a 73 ATC70 was worth a little over $1000 - I got to thinking that finally we are going to see some appraisal values that are actually up to snuff - but then I went back on this morning to try to find those same prices and all I see for all the 1970's models trikes is a price of N/A.
So here is the joke:
Look here for the price of a 1986 ATC350X in Excellent condition -
http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-38-5697-0-0-0&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5698&m=0028&d=1500012945&y=1986&ml=H&gc=AM>c=MC
then read the description of Excellent condition. When are these people gonna wake up and give us fair market values for our trikes,. BTW - most insurance company use NADA for insurance payouts. So - all you guys with really nice OEM or restored 350X's - if they get stolen - this should be enough to replace it.

I ran into this problem when trying to prove the value of my two trikes that were vandelized. It's a good thing I kept all the reciepts and service records. I was also able to use completed ebay listings to show what folks are spending on this stuff these days.
The plantiffs lawyer tried to pull that NADA book crap with me but fortunalty things worked out.

I think we should get together and make our own..it's too hard to go by what ebay brings in..thats all about what people are willing to spend..

OK - like say 1986 350X in Excellent condition as described by NADA as:
"Excellent — A close to perfect original or a very well restored motorcycle. A motorcycle that is stunning to look at and any flaws are minor and not readily apparent. Everything works as new. All equipment is original, new old stock (NOS) factory replacements, or minimal use of excellent quality reproductions. An excellent condition bike may seem to most individuals as a perfect motorcycle but to the trained expert will have minor flaws or inaccuracies."
3WW Value:???????????? (I would say $4500)
Dammit!

NADAs values are "right on" because they use sale data (what people sell them for) across the US.
Problem is, most old bikes are basket cases, in contrast to the ones here that are built/rebuilt with TLC. Heck, mines rebuilt from the ground up, Ive got at least what "book" costs in rebuilt parts/labor (except labor doesnt count).
Anyone wanting to insure a nice one has to declare the value to the company and insure it for more than "book"
Realize "book" is for average sales and most of your rides are above average.
And if its stored in the garage (or house) check on homeowners or renters insurance which might cover it.

couldnt have said it better myself.
hell my father sold his 225dx for 350 or 400 and it was far from mint. we know what they are worth but only if the ignorant pricing (or what ever they are) companies did too.

NADAs values are "right on" because they use sale data (what people sell them for) across the US.
Show me 1 excellent condition 350X that sold for less than $2500 anywhere in the USA in the past 5 years.
Also I dare anyone here to show me 1 fair condition* 350X that sold for $50
Fact of the matter is - NADA is either A) pulling these numbers out of thin air - or B) using data from 1990 - but even if "B" were true - I still can't see these numbers being "Actual Sale Data".
*Fair — Starts, runs, and rides OK but needs some work. Motorcycle shows signs of use but not abuse. Any previous restoration or mechanical work is older and not holding up well. Cosmetics, body, and mechanics all need work to some degree. This is a complete motorcycle with most sheet metal and body parts being correct but only in fair condition.
BTW - I just found this so maybe we do have some hope:

Just some food for thought: How many time have you or someone you know reported paying less than actual price for a machine / vehicle than they actually paid? basically cheating on the taxes. I know a few. Well NADA prices are all based on "Reported" sale value. If everytime some buys a machine they report the "Actual" purchase price to the goverment then the NADA values would go up. But on the other hand ( down side ) everyone would be paying a lot more taxes on the machines as well.
So, If you want the NADA or KBB prices to go up, then everyone needs to start reporting ACTUAL purchase price and pay the taxes. I honestly can't see that happening.

when was the last time someone had to report how much they paid for a trike? around here, you hand the buyer cash, and the guy just loads the trike in the truck and its the last you ever see it again. Even on the last 4 trikes I got with titles. When I transfered the titles. I just went and paid the title transfer fee. and was done with it. jim
