I'm just a bit curious and uneducated on this.

Seems like you get a smaller tank (saves weight?), larger shrouds (more air??) and a tripple clamp that lowers the front end a bit (better handling??)

Am I remotely close? Why is this so dam popular other than being rare?

Could a guy make up his own type of short track kit??

Am I missing anything here?? Seems like a waste of junk,lol......

Just curious, thats all :D

also, the new triples and tank allow the front wheel to steer more. I think that is the number one reason to buy this kit.

the tank is smaller and set back more so YOU can turn more, in a racing sense they are good, but I wouldnt have them on my dailly rags at all, I have one on my flat tracker and bily does as well, we benifiet from them.

Ah ha! so it's the shorter turning radius that gets you guys all ATC horny....

So modifying the stops doesn't do it because the tripples still hit the tank I assume??

If the 85/86 R had a metal tank I guess you guys would all be smashing it in or reworking it with some metal....

You guys need to design a metal tank for these badboys! :naughty:

Seems like a VERY expensive wanted product......

yep the turning radius has an great affect on performance on the track, and with a stock tank you would hit the tank if you modded the stops, and yep if it was metel it would be modded to work

they can get expensive, but I got mine at a steal when I got it, so you need to look and keep your eyes peeled and you can get a deal on them still.

the main benefits of teh short track tank is the increased steering radius you have. But, I've also come to really, really, really, like how narrow the tank also is compared to the stock 250R one. You feel much more maneuverable and the entire machine feels like its 15 or 20lbs lighter. You also need to move the radiators back, change or re-route the hoses, and grind some notches in the bottom clamp to get the full lock.

Everyone knows the red tanks are gone, theres still a few of the black ones out there available new. Although, it wasn't until just a few years ago that they were even available in black. Want to hear a rumor? I was told by someone that would have a good chance of it being true, that the reason Honda decided to go ahead and re-make the tanks after they discontinued the red ones was so when they (honda) built and designed the trx450R, they could look at and borrow some of the oldschool HRC design from the HRC short track 250R tank to incorporate into the 450R. What better way to get some design tips and ideas then looking back at what was top tier in the high roller racing days?

The rads are also dropped to clear the top fork tubes when the increased turning come into play.I am :wondering
