ok, here we go again. a guy wants to trade me his 1990 xr100 for my 1987 dr200 (http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?p=575723#post575723). here what he wrote:

My bike runs well it just may need a carb tuning, it runs kind of rich and every 3 or so rides you need to replace the spark plug. When it is running there are no problems. Its has blue smoke when first started. I dont think its the piston rings, it doesnt have a title.
going to run the vin tomorrow to make sure its not stolen. im pretty sure its a good trade, but what do you guys think?
what do you guys think?
good trade?

are these bikes known for anything bad/going wrong?
any opinions/comments?
thanks.

Can you do a test compression on it before you buy it? That way you will see if the blue smoke is due to the rings or the valve seals???

Were you in the market for a smaller bike?
If not, then it seems to me like you'd be trading down.
Smaller bike, less powerful, and could possibly need a rebuild.
It's a decent bike but, I'd rather have the DR than that, but that's just my opinion.

Thats the same thing I was thinking, the XR100 is a good bike but I would rather have the bigger bike (DR).

i kinda like the xr more then my dr. just in design and everything im 5'8" and about 130 lbs right now. is that bike a good size for me? the dr i feel is kinda big on me.
i ran the vin, came up clear, not stolen.

a guy also offered me a 1997 kaw ke100, runs good w/ title. its ether the xr, or the ke?

I've never ridden a KE but they look extremely out dated to me. Still uses the dual rear shock setup and older style expansion chamber.
If I had to choose between that and the XR, I'd definitely go with the XR.

i thought the same thing, it does look outdated. but what caught my eye is its a 2-stroke and a duel sport. so idk?

i would choose the ke over the xr, but i think the dr is perfect size i had one and im 5'4 and it fit me good, now i ride a 250.

i can tip toe the dr, and it fits me good size wise, but it feels a little heavy. it rode a crf100f about a year ago, and that fit me good THEN, idk about now. i could whip that thing around great.
sell to fund my x build, trade for xr, trade for ke???? IDK???

personally i would trade for the xr if i was you, they are great little bikes, and can be pretty fast with work. your not gonna get much $$ out of that dr they dont go for a lot.

no i mean if it was me i would take the ke casue i love vintage 2 strokes, but it sounds like u liked the crf100 you drove which is a xr100 basically, so i would say in your case take the xr. but the ke is a very kool fast little bike and you can even get it on the road. so i guess its really what u want, a 2 or 4 stroke, i mean i would say grab that ke! but its up to you. im sry for the mix up,

if your 5'8" i would not get a xr100...things are small. only way i would want a xr100 is if i has a old cr80 laying around 96+ and then put the motor in that.

your dr200 is an odd ball, but it has more power. if you dont want it throw it on ebay or the local paper for $700 and it should sell asap.

If it's cheap, I say get it! They're great on gas, and will eventually hit 50 mph, if you stay on the wide open throttle long enough  I was riding double on my friends and we passed cars on the highway with it

They're very light and good to learn on. The suspension is nowhere near the league of competition bikes, like the CR85 though. You can get upgrades for almost everything on the bike through Dennis Kirk and other retailers, everything from progressive springs, gas shocks, exhaust, big bores, etc.
