85 Honda 250sx stalls after running

I have been working on a 85 Honda 250sx. It starts up and runs for one minute with no problems. Then it stalls llike someone hit the kill switch. I disassembled and cleaned the carb and jets. The fuel tank was emptied and refilled with fresh gas. Has any other 250sx owners encountered this problem?

Check the gas cap to see if the vent if stopped up. Run it for a while without the cap on and see if that helps. You've done right right by checking the cab out. Is the air filter in good shape? Are you running an in-line fuel filter? Check it too.

I live in the Lansing area of Michigan. I will try the gas cap removing tonight after work. There is also a fuel filter in the gas line I can replace. Thanks for the rapids responses and I have been enjoying the website very much.

I wanted to say thanks for the tip of removign the gas cap to keep my friends 250sx running. I would not have figured that to be the problem. Thanks again for the great advise and I enjoy reading thru these forums.

When it dies, turn the fuel off and drain the carb bowl, there should be at least 20 cc of fuel inside, maybe closer to 35 cc. It might take a minute maybe two to burn enough fuel from the bowl to lose idle.

Also, check that the spark plug isnt fouled (brown or black.)
