I was told when I bought my 86 200x that it has a 250r Rear axle under it. I'd like more info to see if this was a valid swap, as I have no way to contact the guy who supposedly did it. the trike rides great, just like to get the skinny on what I got....

Man I really don't like those rear tires. Where has the best deal on some 20" for 9" wheels?

I'm not sure, but I believe it's the aircooled R axle that is supposed to work for this, not the water pumper. I don't have any width info for you though. I also believe it's 400ex hubs that will bolt onto your axle and add an inch or so in width on each side.
Anyone feel free to add to this or correct me if I'm wrong.

It looks like it already has the EX hubs on it, they are definitly a different offset than my 85
Here are my 85 hubs.

I'm not sure about the axle width, but for tires, check out http://www.rockymountainatv.com/typeDetail.do?navType=type&navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webTypeId=138&webCatId=8
They have some pretty good prices.

Ive been told that the 83-84 axles can work with a little modification, but this would be the first one Ive seen. Stock 86-87 hubs are offset, 400ex's also have the same offset, the 83-85's sit about 3/4" inward (compared to the 86-87's).
I dont know what the spline pattern is on the air coolers, but the liquids along with the 350x's have their own.
Your sprocket hub looks a little different to me, Im not positive but I think for the R axle to work in the X you have to run a sprocket and/ or disk hub from the R. This is the next thing I plan on doing to my 86, so Im just as interested as you to see what this axle is all about. Hopefully we can figure something out!

***UPDATE***
I got ahold of the guy I bought it from and he is going to see if he can get the contact info for me for the guy that supposedly did the work on it. Hopefully he'll tell me a little about his bag of secrets.

Are there any quad hubs that fit the 85 250r axle then?
