View Full Version : Anybody interested in group buy on custom 10" douglas front rims?

I am looking to try to get 5 Douglas custom 10" front rims for the ATC 250r, and as many of you know, Douglas will not make the custom wheels anymore unless you buy 24 at a time. I really need a couple of these rims bad, and really do not want to be sitting on 19 extra rims. I am trying to see if maybe there is an interest in some other people trying to get in on this. As far as i know these wheels will also fit an 86-87 tecate, and the tri-z if you put a honda hub on the front. Maybe some of you guys that already got a custom 10" wheel will want an extra for a spare. Or some of you guys that missed out on getting your 10" wheel will jump in too. The 10" is the only way to go for racing either on ice, mx, or flat track. The 10" wheel is also what the guys ran back in the days on the tracks. The 10" rim will also give you many different tire options, and make sure you will be able to buy front tires for the rest of your trike's life. You never know they might discontinue 11" tires, and i do not want to put a 4x4 tire on my race trike. Let me know if any of you guys are interested. Come on guys, if we wait any longer Douglas might tell us that we have to buy 50 or 100 at a time. Thanks for the interest. atcrace

Does anyone know if its possible just to buy the 3 inch offset wheel halves, undrilled, and un-welded? If you can I could probably crank out a few for everyone, thats how I made my 10inch front wheel but I got the halves from Boubin/REAL Wheel company instead of DWT.

id be interested, once i figure out what the deal is with my motor.....

douglas would be nice, but if you could get un-drilled halfs and put the z bolt patern on them, that would sweet!

atcrace
02-02-2008, 10:53 PM
Douglas will not sell the wheel halves, or the wheels undrilled. You want a 250r front hub on that tri-z anyway because its smaller and lighter. Plus the 10" wheel will not fit around the big tri-z hub anyway.

I'm down for at least 2, possibly 5 if you need numbers to have them made but I'd rather have a 10x5.

Billy, I was going to get ahold of you to make me one or two, what do you think about converting a trx aftermarket front rim, I was thinking a 3/2 offset rim if its doable. I need to see if I have any floating around to see if its even possible.

Billy Golightly

You can do a 10x5 Jim but then your gonna need some finagling with the front hub to get the offset correct and also for the brake disc. I've seen Jason Hall and SYKO both use 2 quad wheels and make one center offset 10x6 front rim, which is probably about the easiest thing to do especially since there is tons of them around.

i would be good for two. i have been thinking about starting this post myself!!!

atcrace
02-02-2008, 11:34 PM
Only problem with a 10x5 is you will have an uneven off set, and douglas does not have uneven wheel halves. The only way to go is 3+3 because then you will have a 3+2 wheel.

What will be the cost of each wheel shipped? Where will they be shipped to? We all need to know so we can base our own numbers off those factors.

atcrace
02-03-2008, 01:16 AM
The wheels will still be the same price that they were because douglas will not give any break on the price. Wheels will be shipped to me and then shipped to where ever you guys want, and you will be charged an actual shipping price. I am very serious about getting these wheels and am willing to put up the money to purchase the wheels myself, but i would like to know that there is people serious like me so i don't have a slew of extra wheels. atcrace

I didn't figure Douglas would hook anybody up, but what is the price? I have no idea how much they are. That being said, approximately how much will they be shipped to your door?

by the time you guys figure this out and actually get them I could have gotton the 20 done down here by now, providing you dont mind a cut and rewelded rim. Works great and only took...well..um a week...

atcrace - 6 wheels now
xsystem- 2 maybe 5
200x basket- 2
eddie pettengil- 1 maybe 2
louis mielke - 1

Thats 16 wheels right now, so i only need to know i can sell 8 more wheels, and i will place this order right away if every one is serious. I am looking for a brand new douglas .190 wheel for my projects and really don't want a cut and re-welded wheel unless i have to.

Wheels are paid, ordered, and on the way. The wheels will be $120.00 and everybody will be charged an actual shipping price by their zip code from my zip code. Douglas said 4-8 weeks before they get to them, but they told me on this order that they will have it done sooner. The wheels will go to the first people that said they were in on the buy.

I spoke with Douglas this week to see how much longer it would take and they said another couple weeks because they have been very busy, but they would try to get them in sooner with some other similarly sized wheels. I will keep everybody posted, but Douglas said i probably would not hear from them untill they are ready to ship.

atcrace
03-20-2008, 11:29 AM
Douglas just charged my card 2 days ago, so i am assuming that the wheels are being made as we speak. They said they would charge my card when the wheels were going in, and that they would charge the other half on my card when they were done and ready to ship. They told me i would not get a call from them untill they are ready to ship. So that is the scoop, i hope everybody that was in on this is going to be ready for when the wheels come in. Thanks

Hi there:

Can you make me a couple of alum rims for my KLT-250 ? It uses the big 25X12X9 tires on the back. Also would like a front rim for this machine of alum, also, and it uses the 22X11X8 tire on the front.

Thank you,

Casper_zip

You can email me direct, also, that is fine.

What is the advantages of these rims compared to stock?

Also, do they fit a 1985 Honda 250 Big Red? Are they for the front or rear?

Sorry for the stupid questions but, I am new to this 3 wheeler thing. :w00t:

What is the advantages of these rims compared to stock?

Larger tire selection (many quads run this size) and we are getting pretty limited as to tire selection for the 200X / 250R / 350X fronts. Also Way better cornering / carving turns.

Also, do they fit a 1985 Honda 250 Big Red?

No - not even close.

Are they for the front or rear?

Front

It is OK - but please read the whole thread on questions like this.

I did it, I wish there was more meat left after grinding but I dont think it will be a problem. My atc is used on the ice, so I will not have any issues. You would have to take a pretty hard hit to break it. You can get hubs cheap on ebay. I got a very clean one with great bearings for 16 bucks with shipping. It was cheaper to buy that one than clean my old one.

read this,

http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=47281&highlight=custom+front+rim

This has some info for you. you will also have to shave the cooling fins on the brake caliper just a little bit on each end. It only took me about an hour to complete. If you have some type of grinder you are good to go.
