I just got a 84 200x axle from my friend and have a quick question. Theres a little hub mount on the left side with splines, and underneath that are splines also that I can see. Is it possible to remove this part? I was looking for a small clip but couldnt find one. Thanks

Yes but why??

It is a very very very tight press fit, doesn't really seem intended to be removed but heat and a good press will take it off. Anything else will destroy parts.

Thats what I was thinking when I was looking at it. I was looking at it and its just about similar to a 86 and its 2'' longer. Plus I got sick of the jam nut. Alot more sprocket options too, you can get from a 35-42 tooth, on a 2nd gen axle you can only get a 40 and 38t. I got it for free also, the axle splines on mine are shot, these are like new and its perfectly straight so I thought I would give it a shot. This time im fixing everything at once instead of finding them before its too late. But thanks for telling me that, I would have been hammering on it by now.

-congratulations, you've just saved an axle!

i can now confirm that a 84 axle fits in a 86 swingarm/carrier with nearly no modification. It fits perfectly and has no play at all, all I had to do was put 2 1/4'' pvc spacers between the bearings, then took the stock mounting studs out, and replaced them with 5 metric bolts so they dont rub the carrier. Over all it extended it 2.5'' with 86 hubs, and with 1.5'' spacers it is 49.5'' wide. This means you can use anywhere from a 35-42 tooth sprocket, including any durable + axles! :w00t: Now I just have to find more parts to put together a new machine so I can test it out.
