What do you think about pit bikes?

Do you guys like or hate pit bikes. personally i think their great and loads of fun. Give me your opions.

I have an SDG Speed Mini. It was cool while it worked.

I don't like the really cheap ones you see on Ebay that cost like 400 dollars, ultra junk. Personally, I think they should be less expensive, but better quality. I can get a brand new Yamaha YZ85, which is a competition ready bike with liquid cooling, 10 inches of suspension (or so) and more for only 3200, I don't see why 2300 gets me a cheap bike on which the engine blows up, frame cracks, shocks blows out, etc. I'm only 140 lbs and don't jump super-huge so that's not the problem either.

i had a really nice 1 but it needed work every time you rode it and it was like new ,1 ride needs brake pads, next ride needs chain then the throttle cable then this then that then the 125 liftan was 2 powerful and i did 2 many jumps and blew the rear shock and rim at the same time like ak said unless you get it cheap spend your money on a little yz or cr

My SDG was just like that. It liked to chew up rear wheel bearings, I went through those on a weekly basis. It also liked to eat tires, but that's probably more of a horsepower thing.

i stick with the tried and true xr's i have had 4 xr's 1980 xr 80, 1987 xr80, 1997 xr100, and a 2001 xr 100. I only have the 87 xr80 and 97 xr100 now but they are super fun, throw on some stiffer springs and they are great as long as you change the oil it will never break. i beat the living hell out of the xr80 and it always starts right up the next day.

I have a JCL 125 pitbike. Its been great so far. I have had it, i dunno prolly 8-10 months now and the only thing i have ever done to it other than drive it into the ground is changed the grips. I have been really really impressed with the durability of this little machine. I love it. I know the little China bikes are all just pot luck anyway, 99% arent worth using for a trotline weight. I just got lucky.

I know a group of guys that own and raced pit bikes. I turned them all on their ears when I brought out the atc70s. 3\4 of them have gotten rid of their pit bikes and are riding and racing the 70s now. Most have lifan engines, since it is easy to find 70s with trashed engines. 1 or 2 88cc kits and a 110 kit too. The pit bikes have kind of proven themselves unreliable. Fun for the short run and then end up being real pains to keep up. The engines on them seem to be the most reliable parts. The rest of most of the bikes are built kind of flimsy.

2 of my buddies bought SDG speed mini's brand new.... What a waste of $2200(at the time)... with little use both blew out the shocks... The forks sucked right from the start... the foot pegs folded like cheese, One blew out rear spokes, both broke kickstarter gears, The air filters are extremely exposed and prone to getting pulled off, one transmission scattered... they both smoked and burned oil after less than 6 months of average pitbike use.... motor mounts woulndt stay tight and cracked mounts, etc, etc, etc...... If you dont have thousands of dollars to blow on a top-notch pit bike I suggest building up an ATC 70 instead... pit trikes are way funner anyways....

AMEN TO THAT. I had more fun on my junkyard 70 with a 110 engine hacked into it than I did on my SDG that I would have paid 2300 for. :TrikesOwn

Oh, and the SDG is "supposed" to be a top-notch pitbike :rolleyes:

mine was fun, but i had to work on it all the time. But i never had to really by parts. I just kept rigging it. Long story short i had a house light switch as a starter switch. It eventually shorted and toasted the wiring bad. So i need to re wire itnow.
