It has been talked about in other threads and messages, so this is the official thread for signing up for a group buy on MAIER BLACK PLASTICS for the 86/7 200x. The front and rear fenders are available in Maier colors and we will be ordering *BLACK* The scoops for 86/87 ARE NOT avalable thru Maier. Also, special colors are the same as list price, with a min order of 10 pieces per item.

This will fall in line with the other group buys that have been done with Maier. What I am asking for right now is a sign up list. or commitment to follow thru when we do this. It has been said that right now isn't a good time, so I am thinking that we will set a deadline of April 15th to close this out. That gives everyone 8+ weeks to decide if they want to do this. If we hit it sooner and everyone agrees, we'll order sooner, but we'll try not to leave anyone out that might want in on this. Tammy(Mrs. Moshman) was good enough to find out the pricing info and details. It's pretty much Maier's regular deal, min order of 10 of each piece. Pricing is as follows, and doesn't reflect shipping. It will be a PREPAY deal BEFORE the order is placed, and some sort of shipping arrangment will be made by then.

How does the shipping work on something like this? Do we send the money to one person, they order then maier ship to everyone? or does the whole shipment have to go to one person then it gets shipped from the buyers house? Thanks jim

No Maier will not drop ship. So all the plastics have to go to one person then be shipped out to all the buyers.

Oh, and Maier will make a mold of the 86/87 shrouds, but the setup for the mold is between $1000-1500 and the minimum order is 25 of a color.

What kind of mold do they need? If they need a plaster/ceramic one I can give them the one I made, or one close to it.

Too bad I just got a new front fender and had some decent rears or else I would be in :cry: Black would be way better than white but right now I dont have 200 bucks to spend on them. Yeah 1000 for a mold is sad. I could probably make a mold out of a solid aluminum block for under 30 bucks. :lol:

i have plenty of small of aluminum blocks laying around my house that have been here forever. I have access to a mill, But I only have 1 good shroud, the left side is cracked in half. I can try to do it and see how it comes out with the right one. If they were completely flat it wouldnt be a problem but they have some concave to them that would make it harder. Ill see how large of block it would take to make one, and if I have one the right size and post later on.

Thats good to know, I may be able to have 230 for the plastics by then. I would love to have a set of black ones just to have around to use someday when I finish my new X project. I really like the black and grey frame too, thats a nice combo.

I am interested in more info on this, like how much for the mold plus 50 sets? is the set-up cost for the mold include the mold itself - in other words would they ship the mold with the ordered sets or keep it for future runs whenever they want to run/sell them? any help/info would be great.

So call it 1500$ a mold and 30$ for a set of shrouds at 50 pieces.

Thats 60$ a pair for the whole deal.

Or at 25 pieces it's 90$ a pair.

Not trying to bust your chops :beer , just we're 3 pages into this post and we don't need it to veer off target.....but here is the info that Mrs. Moshman had sent me.....I'll see if she can chime in on it as for the status of the propriety of the mold.


Do you mean to have the molds made for the 86-87? It depends. You have to ship a good set of scoops to Maier, and then they will give you a cost on the mold. It depends on the peice/s you want made. Probably between $500-1000 for the mold. I had to send in good Tri-z peices, and they determine the mold cost after looking at the original plastic.
Then it is a minimum order of 25, when you have a mold made.

Yes, if you are wanting to have a mold made through Maier, here is what you need to do:
You have to send in a good peice of plastic/s for them to look over and determine a cost for that mold. They will also give you the cost per plastic peice. You have to order at least 25, and any order there after is a min of 25 peices.

Maier does keep the mold, but it is yours. Not just anyone can call up and order these.
Now, I don't know if you have to be a dealer to have a mold made or not. This is something you will have to look into. Best bet is to call Maier for your specific questions.
If you guys run into a brick wall or do not want to do this, I am happy to handle it for you. Since I am doing the Tri-Z stuff, and all the Carbon fiber stuff, I have done a lot of business with Maier, I may be able to get a better deal. But whatever molds you guys want made, through me, will be in the name of Cosmic Quads.

I hope I have answered any questions.

Not on the 86-87 200x, the fender bolts are alot closer together.

It would look like sh!t. On the 250r fender the holes are on the raised side of the fender and on the 200x the holes are almost in the middle of the forks. You would see the bolts sticking up through the fender of the R if you were to modify it to put it on the 200x. Not only that it would pull the middle of the 250r fender up and in and give it a warped appearence.

I have run the 85/86R front fender on an 85-87 250SX, 83-85 200X and a 350X. I knew the steering stop from 85 200X to an 86 200X had changed but didn't know the triples changed otherwise.....

I'll have to CHECK it out!
