Getting excited now ...the ice is perfict!! just like they said for once..9 degrees.. sunday has me worried .. might have to hit it hard sunday morning before the rain and warmer temps arrive ... coffies on!!

I'm spending a good part of the day getting ready. The Tecate is loaded in the trailer (blown shock and all) but I didn't even bother starting it. I started the 330R for the first time in a year, put fresh gas in and it fired right up. I loaded that in the trailer too. I got the 350X in the shed, I wanna put fresh gas in it, lower it, and change the oil before today. The rest is cake, just loading up gear, tools, supplies, and clothes. I'm hoping to be out of here 4am Sunday and up there by 9am at the latest.

I don't care if it warms up some tomorrow, its nice to not freeze your arse off out there, as long as the rain holds off and doesn't snow us in overnight.

just got home from Raffas. Thanks for the hospitality. I had a blast, along with the lil holic. My R was suffering from disappearing studs in the front tire all day. I should have NEVER taken them out after studding up once. DONT DO IT! Get and keep a dedicated set of ice tires (i was too lazy to find a new front rim and hub) I learned my lesson

WTB 83-84 250r HUB and brake disk (i'll buy another douglas for the front)!!!!

The ole 350x ran good all weekend. Even started right up sunday morning after being frozen solid. I kinda lost my rear breaks when that loudass cobra melted my brakeline tho.. and I was having some traction problems cause I cheaped out and just used sheet metal screws. (I'll be ready next time tho!)... other than that I couldn't be happier. just an all around great group of guys to hang and ride with!!! :beer

How did Chris D, and John R run against each other? They both look fast.

The bikes are both very evenly matched. We've got the same cylinder, the same pipe, the same ignition, similar carbs, similar reed cages, and the same suspension. Chris and I have known each other for over 20 years and Chris has been riding a 250R for just as long. So its always a pleasure to race with Chris and our friend Mike (who couldn't make it) because we all trust one another not to do anything "stupid" out there. I'm the "new guy" in our group since I bought my first one 15 years ago while those guys have over 20 years of experience riding 250R's. It almost always comes down to if the guy following can put enough pressure on the guy who is leading to make him make a mistake. When we had a real race out there on Sunday Chris got the holeshot but he bobbled in the wide corner and I got around him. The next lap I ended up beating myself because I bobbled in the tight corner and ended up in the snow bank. Its always a lot of fun to get out there and battle it out. Hopefully we can get Mike to come along next time, his R is really nice too:

It's supposed to get cold for a few days here, maybe we can get something going for the weekend after next (March 1st and 2nd) on the shallow part of Greenwood Lake.

YES!! I'd like to do this at least one more time before ice out. I wouldn't hesitate to ride 3.5 hours to ride in circles with you guys again. After sitting outside and hearing that ice crunch on sunday night I kinda have my doubts. :wondering Keep us posted Mr. Raffa. :naughty:

Very true...John and I worked on Mike hard, but he couldn't come. John and I are well matched, but have different racing styles. I power into the turn earlier and slide around the turn using less traction. John accelerates out from the apex of the turn using more acceleration than RPM. Our signals get crossed when one leads the other, but that is racing. Great racing on Sunday John. It was great fun!!! Let me know about GWL. I have to get up there anyway.

We are just kinda "iffy" on whether or not we'll be safe. :crazy: I HEARD they got like 12 inches of good ice on the lake we are planning on riding. Its supposed to be like 36 degress tomorrow and then get even warmer on monday. :lol: :lol: How much ice are you guys riding on? I've NEVER did any ice-riding and im hoping to do so tomorrow. We are just kinda "iffy" on whether or not we'll be safe. :crazy: I HEARD they got like 12 inches of good ice on the lake we are planning on riding. Its supposed to be like 36 degress tomorrow and then get even warmer on monday. The one corner was down to about 4 inches and that's plenty. You have to remember that it isn't just the thickness of the ice holding up the weight, its the fact that the ice is supported by the water that its floating on top of. If there is 12 inches of ice you can take a pickup truck out there and not even sweat it.

michigan :lol: :lol: right up the road in three rivers MI over towards jeswinehart there is a 630 acre lake called corey lake. supposidly they have 12 inches and people have been riding all over it the last few days. If not there then there is a smaller lake closer to me which is simonton lake (like 306 acres) im not sure what there ice is like tho. I dont know if either of the lakes are spring fed or what. theres plenty of lakes around here, i just want to find a safe one

:lol: someone posted a pic awhile back of a like new f-150 going through some ice. i think it was up in canaDUH somewhere :lol: i figure 12 inches is way more than enough but hell i dunno. I hear about people fishing on 3 inches of ice so i figured 12 would be plenty for quads/trikes.

Diz.. stay away from any inlets and wet spots.. 12" you could land a 747 on...
Knowing the lake your rideing on is allways a plus,check with some people out there too find out how thick it is.. the shallow part of the lake will be the thickest.;)

i've never heard it crack like it did when we walked out there. it was every 2-3 minutes non stop. My girlfriend was freaking out :lol: . I unloaded my 350x, did one lap to show her it was safe, came back to the truck and the POS bogged out and died. We didnt even get to unload her 400ex. I think the good ol 350 just needs the carb cleaned....hopefully.
