Alright I am wondering if there is a way to clean the rust out of the gas tank or should I just not worry about it and put a fuel filter on it....let me know

get some nuts and bolts and some hot soapy water put into tank and ask a paint store to put it in there paint shaker for about 30 mins (make sure its closed up tight) this will usually remove all loose rust and clean out the inside decent, then when done let a water hose run in the tank for about an hour this will let the scale rust and dust flow out then let dry for a while, a hair dry pointing on the tank to help evaporate the water works great. also still run a filter

Why nuts and bolts? Because sometimes the cleaning abrasive doesn't want to shake out when you're done and any remaining nuts & bolts can be easily pulled out with a magnet!

There are 2 part chemical kits for clean/seal of gas tanks. BBs are best, small diameter. BBs and water and shake it well.

Make sure to replace the filter, especially if its the old stock one and disassemble and clean the fuel valve.

Get as much rust out as you can, like they said above, puts something in the tank (i.e. nuts and bolts, rocks, bb's, whatever within reason) and use those items in the tank to help remove as much rust as possible by shaking it. When that is finished coat it with rust inhibitor of some type and then seal it. Can use ummm...cant remember what its called, but its some type of coat cream solution you can get from a dealer. Has something to help remove the rust, something to prime the tank, and another bottle that has stuff to seal the tank off with.

2 part chemical kit, a cleaner and sealer. The second part puts a plastic liner (coating) in the tank

Was just thinking about fuel cell bladders for drag cars,do they make them that small? The NASCAR jobs are too big.
