Hey there guys: I guess this thread is more for the technically onclined on this boards, but, if you have this info, please chime in.
Does anyone knows the spring rate for the 85-87R's (ATC / TRX) and the 88-89 TRX's.
The reason I ask is beacause the will fit the TRI-Z, but what I'm needing is a 10% stiffer spring for the Z.
There are 3 different spring rates for the Z:
1RX-22212-00-6W Std Spring….....335 lbs / in (6.0 kg / mm) natural steel color
1RX-22212-10-6W Soft Spring…....307 lbs / in (5.5 kg / mm) green color
1RX-22212-20-6W Hard Spring…...363 lbs / in (6.0 kg / mm) white color
They are known for their color according to the manual and part #'s.
Most of the TRI-Z, if not all came with the Std. spring. I know a lot of the newer Yamaha ATV's run white springs, including the warrior. Could that be the stiffer spring we are needing? I've also seen pink, blue, yellow atc. and I have not found spring rates for those colors. These springs can be used wothout having to revalve the stock shock. I'm pretty sure that with a thicker oil and the correct amount of nitrogen we'll be able to use a spring within a 10-15% rate increase.
If any of you know the Honda's spring rate we may have a cost effective alternative. The rear suspension on both machines are similar but they change greatly in terms of linkage design. And that by itself changes everything, The HONDA springs look to be of a lesser rate or "softer" than The Z's if the spring wire is any indication, but that alone does not determine spring rate.
The only way of knowing is by the real spring rate #'s of the HONDAS. But I have not been able to find these #'s anywhere and I don't have access to a spring rate machine anymore.
Billy, Moshman, Yamahondaman, and the tech crew?
Any takers???
