I have seen a lot of people being against trail pro tires... Why does everyone point out them if someone has them on their trike? Are they crap tires or something? I have one as my front tire on my big red and I think its a good tire.... not trying to start an argument, just wondering.
Can anyone fill me in??

in my opinion - they are the worst tire ever made. the rubber compound is super hard - the tread pattern looks like the tire designer was tripping on acid - and they don't do anything very well - snow - mud - water - all no good. They do OK in hard pack - but what doesn't?
You gotta think - how could WalMart's number 1 selling ATV tire be any good?
They last forever:shiftyeyes:

They are heavy but I like them. I have a pair on the rear of my 185s and they do great in the mud, hit a hole and pin it and it literally rains down mud on top of you as you chew through it. Do reasonably well in the snow too. Better than the stock pro-am's by far.
I know nobody is going to agree with me but its the truth, If I could find another pair for my 200s it'd have them too.

Well, they clog up too fast and become as useful as a bald tire. Theyre heavy...and that tread pattern(as stated by Tim) is one of the stupidest designs Ive ever seen on a tire.

They're a great tire if you wanna say that the bike has new tires, because they always look new! lol!

The weight alone makes them junk IMO... I would never run them on a sport machine, or purchase them new for any application...

lol...so that's me, schmee, and billy who know.
I won't lie, in the mud down here, they would clog up in less than a second.
it's black as asphault, stickier than gum, heavy as lead, and thick as clay...it's crap.
i think schmee put it best to syko... "when you think you can turn 27s, you hit this and find out very quickly that you can't".
a couple of the other south louisiana members can attest to the utter suckiness of blackjack mud.
seems like trail pros would be good on gravel...i mean...they would NEVER wear out

The only thing i didn't like about em was the way the feel in the turns (unstable/ tip happy).
As for the packing up in the mud, maybe you guys should get a trike with some balls, then you don't have that problem. lol

And your point is what??? Tiger probably put them on the 500's because they were afraid to get traction or be too light...

OK, I think a 500 is about the only machine that could wear out a pair of trail pros. lol

I know all about it..........I have 30 acres of it in Arnaudville. I've seen trail pros ball up so bad that the fender clearance dissapeared........
Call me crazy but I think that they "look" kind of cool. I guess the level that they suck depends on the level of performance a guy wants, needs and has torque enough to get out of a tire. It's like arguing over the accuracy of 2 different rifles. You don't need a sub MOA tack driver do drop a 190# deer when you only have a 100yard feild of vision. You do if you match shoot though right?

i remember OC saying something about the stock trail pros on the tigers were a much softer compound and not bad as compared to the newer wally world tires.

pirogue dog just made me think of something, back in the day you would see big reds ball up their tires so bad that the front wheel would become a ski and they didn't have enough torque to turn the rear.

Oh yeah glad someone remembered that the wildest and fastest STOCK 500cc 2 stroke 3 wheeler of all time came with trail Pros STOCK......And these 10 inch size that came on it are discontinued. Thats why I had to have them!!! I couldnt believe how excited I was to find an NOS set of 10 inchers on ebay but when you are trying to restore one to magazine article and stock specs these things are very important. They changed the manufacturing process over time...the old school trail pros didnt have those 2 inch nipples on them

I just think it is funny that we are blasting trail pro and a lot of people ( not all) like the Tiger three wheeler. I will re-read the article and see on the tires performed on this beast!!

What does liking the Tiger 500 have to do with hating Carlisle Trail Pros?

Nothing. Just pointing that there is a link between the so popular Trail pro and the tiger 500. Him just giving some info on these tires. What do you want me to say?

That makes sense now... I misunderstood and thought you were trying to imply that trail pros were good tires because they came on tigers... my bad..

Sorry to hijack the thread but what does everything think about carlile turf tramers? I am planning to put them on a set of rims i just wanted to know if it was worth my time. I only do the average riding though some mud and mostly driving on grass.
turf tames are cool old school, your ok with them, you wont get flamed from us either for them.

man I've ridden in some nasty thick mud, and I just had the 200s out in the snow last weekend and I didnt have any problems with the trail pros. better than the stock tires that were on it, they're cheap, and hey I know I can always get them cheap from you guys who want to get rid of yours haha

Trail Pro's Suck off the Hardpack. So do there big Brother the Turfbuster. You need so much wheel spin to keep them clean, that you loose all bite the tire could have provided. The only thing they do well is hardpack, as each one posses so many biting edges, and being stiff as a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* they corner descent for such a large tire. About the only time I would actually enjoy a TP/TB is on a granite ledge hill, as they grip that stuff awesome.

Like i said in the first post of this thread, my big red does good with those tires, i guess it just depends on what you like to ride! IMO I think they are a good trail tire. But like everyone else said it clogs up too much with mud....

Ok, so I'm guessing this maybe wasn't the best decision in the world. But they were nearly free, and they keep it off the floor so they'll do for now.

Ive never used um but mine came with mudbusters they are beast! I love um cuz i do alot of snow and mud, but it has a mudbuster on the front too. The prob is when you turn the wheel, the wedges in the tire can't do their job and i continue going forward >.< *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* retards.
