Looks nice. I personally like the blacked out look, its easier to manage here in New England. What did you use for fat bar clamps? Did you use adapters or did you replace them all together? What bend do the bars have and would you recommend it?

thanks for the kind words guys, the way things have been going with this thing i need them, but i talked to mosh and my new motor will be in the mail soon!!!!!!!

but for the bars i used the turner OV bar mounts they were 26 bucks from motosport.com just get the "universal rubber mount" and they work perfect. and for bars there pro-taper contoure (sp?) CR high bend and i love them about a inch taller then stock and much better bend:beer

thats looking good. how much for the motor work? . im doing an 85 and its taking forever to gather all the parts that were missing but it's almost done. needs a piston and bore job. I think i better have the rod checked because the piston that was with it was a brand new weisco looked brand new out of the box shiney. but it was grenaded. it broke the skirt right of the sleeve of the cyl. hope to have it done by april. here's a before pic was missing back rims and tires when i got it . and a pic as it sits now . also looking to find 1 stock gold back rim if any one's got one laying around:beer .i cant load the before pic but it was a mess.

yeah i wasnt sure if i was going to like the all black look, but i think tis turning out ok lol. i cant wait to ride the thing and see how much better the phase 2 is :w00t: :beer

nice looking z you got there man, i would def. have the rod and crank checked, not worth blowing another top end.

but i bought the motor from mosh, cost me a pretty penny but its all rebuilt so it was worth it to me.

but ronnie (yamahondaman) here on the boards does porting and head work, he did the head on my other motor and it cam out awsome. I dont know if he is still doing motor work, since he sold his z, and i think i read on here he is getting out :beer of trikes?

lifan is holding up good. at the first oil change, i expected at least some metal flake in the oil, there was none and the screen was free as well. so the machining seems to be pretty good. and I certainly didn't baby it during break in.

I don't have the ride time on it that I would like as my tank was at a buddy's shop for ever waiting to be painted, and he never did it. then when i went and picked up the 350x from syko, i dropped it off with him.

whenever I get it back, I'll be putting some serious miles on it as I rebuild the 350.

I'm very interested in doing one of those Lifan swaps myself. I've got two extra 70 frames thanks to syko.

well i got my +4 LSR axel last night, and went out and put her in, once i get the 18's on this baby she is gunna look mean! the 22's just kill it lol.

i bit the bullet and painted my rad. shrouds, i know everyone on here hates painted plastics, i dont care for them either, but i just cant afford 200+ for a set of decent black ones. I just went over them with a purple abrasive pad, then put on about 10 coats of the tha cheap plastic paint from krylon (sp?) i think the came out pretty good for being spraybombed

i also started to polish my bottom triple tree, have to finish it up tomorrow, just got most of the white crap off today.

well got her out today! finally! and man what a dif. going from the tired worn out junker to what it is now, handles like its on rails, stearing is much better/lighter with the smaller tire. and man the new motor i got from mosh just flat out rips:w00t: smooth power from bottom to top. I think i might go a few teath bigger in the rear, in some tight trails i couldnt pick between 1st or 2nd. its got a 40 on it now so maybe go back to stock 44.

on the ride home it started acting up a bit, sputtering on the top end, pulled the plug and check it, perfect golden brown. put it back in and took it for a ride up the road, and it was sputtering worse? idles perfect revs fine in neutral, but when you hammer it, it breaks up bad?

but other then that im very happy with the outcome:beer

thanks guys

I have an '86 Z and this sounds familiar. I could be your fuel pump is not bringing gas to the carb fast enough when you really peg the throttle.

thanks alot guys, but today was not a good day for the Z had some major motor malfunctions (sp? lol) having some tranny problems and the sprock head basicly fell off. just my luck

Well in that Pm to me,you told me it blew a rad hose then the Coolhead started leaking.
I am guessing that it over heated when the rad hose blew off,and overheated the motor and fried the o-Rings.

In any sense,I pm'd you back and will take care of it all for you.:beer

evand
04-13-2008, 09:41 PM
just got you PM mosh, like i said in there the rad hose blew, and i shut the bike off as soon as it poped.so i know it didnt over heat.

i bought the motor built from mosh, I am in NO WAY blaming this on him. i know he knows what he's doing and trust his work 100%!!!!in fact he didnt buld this motor just put the head on it. so the tranny issue wasnt his work. i dont blame this on him myself or anyone else, things happen i understand that. before the miss-haps today the motor felt TIGHT!! I know that me and mosh can work something out and get her going again in no time.

again i dont want mosh or anyone else to think im bad mouthing him!!! He gave me a good deal on this motor, a good deal on my seat, good deal on my swing arm parts, and lots of helpfull info. and this bike wouldnt be as nice as it is if i didnt have help from rob and tammy! there great people runing a great businnes and i will continue to buy my parts from them. Again im not blaming anything on mosh and i want that be clear.........

thanks again to rob and tammy and everyone who helped with this build, and im sure it will be straitend out in no time:w00t: :beer

thanks

If all the head bolts were loose but one, you probably just blew the oring out of its groove or damaged it. I would pull the head off and install new orings.

ATC-Eric
04-14-2008, 02:32 PM
What tranny problems are you having?

Also, if I were you, I would buy an inline temp gauge for the Z. Its always good to know what your bike temp is.

evand
04-14-2008, 05:38 PM
im guessing what sprock said is dead on, going to talk to mosh tonight and see what his input is. Any idea why it keeps pushing coolent out of the over flow? compresion blowing by the o-ring and pressurizing the system?

the tranny problem is kinda odd. the tranny feals rock solid all the gears are solid as can be but if i put the bike in nuetral it will slam its self into gear. did it to me 4 or 5 times?

how do those inline temp gauges work? i saw them on ebay, just wondering how acurate they are.

I want everyone to know, that I will take care of Evand any way I can...

This motor ran fine for me.When he recieved the container,it had a hole punched in the side and blew the stator cover all to hell.UPS!!!!!!!!
I am in the process of filing a damge claim, and I did insure the engine for shipping.

I dont know where these problems came from.I would guess the hit it took in shipping, may be suspect.

I never built this engine. It was bought from another guy,and was rebuilt at a Yamaha dealer.
The only thing I did was pull the sidecover, and verified waterpump integrity, and installed the coolhead.

I have no idea why the headbolts worked loose.I torqued them like the rest of them, and I have had no problems.

We will get you squared away Evand!!Dont worry!
